Roy Keane

I've seen fans on here tonight mentioning 'Man Management' and how it was a problem for Keane. Im guessing these fans haven't seen what past players, who played under Roy have said about him and his management techniques....its quite the opposite.

Keane got players playing to their peak levels and built a mentality in which the players bought into, he made them believe they could win by putting in the hard yards. Its no coincidence that when Roy came in, we scored many late goals and always played to the final whistle. He instilled that into a side that were rock bottom, yet if you listen to some on here, the man lacks 'Man management' skills.

Then there's "The modern game has past him by" comments. I (like most) have seen plenty (too much) League One football and I can tell anyone who wants to listen that there's no modern game at this level. In fact, I'd say that when some of our previous coaches down here have tried to bring about this modern style of play, its often left the team confused, along with the very head coach who's trying to implement it.
I posted this the other week… Anton Ferdinand certainly thinks he’s a good man manager…

This could well fail miserably, but if he comes I will enjoy every minute of it. We need a lift and Keane and Defo will do just that and may just be enough to drag us over the line.

Too much emphasis these days is put of philosophies and playing styles. Yes its important, but at this level, discipline and structure are equally, if not more, important.

Have you been paying attention to the dross, misery and disappointment the last 6 years?

How could his appointment be any worse than now. Let yourself have some fun man, you've forgotten what it's like to be inspired. Come on, I've give ya a hand up onto the train.
Exactly. Whether this works or not, I’ve got that spark back that hasn’t been there since that dreaded Moyes season.

I made this point earlier in the week. League one is probably similar if not better than the old championship that Keane got us promoted in. Yes the prem is different now and probably the championship but league one is lifting.
If it’s Keane then I will be delighted plus I think we would be getting a wiser more mature Keane also.

Not if it was last minute it wasn’t mate. Wallace scored a last minute winner at Hull. Wallace did also score the winner v Derby but that was after about an hour.
Yeah, you're right. My memory is not 100%, it was 2 goals in a couple of minutes. Chris Brown, got the first.

Can't believe it was nearly 16 years ago ffs.

Tbh, I am much more concerned that Keane can't get the best out of people than I am about whether he knows how to set a team up well etc.

Little story about Roy Keane I heard on video on Facebook I think (probably via YouTube) as told by Anton Ferdinand.

The players came in at half time during a premier league game 1-0 down.

Keane let them have 5 minutes then came in the dressing room. He said, this game is there for the taking we just need to show some balls so I need some of you to man up, be a leader and grab this game by the scruff of the neck. He then turned to Ferdinand, obviously not you Anton, I know you haven't got the bollocks for it!

Ferdinand said he was f***ing fuming. He went out 2nd half and bust his nuts as did all the other players. They ended up winning 2-1. He came in the dressing room after the game looking for Keane and there he was smiling from ear to ear. It then dawned on Ferdinand that he had just used man management to get the best out of him! He thought it was brilliant.

Incredible that the narrative for some has been that Keane did a poor job last time.

Genuinely mind blowing. He brought the club up from its knees.
I was at Southend. The subsequent uplift with Keane was something I had never experienced. Defoe’s second coming was positive. Keane’s return could be immense. If it fails, better to have tried 🔴⚪🔴

Plenty players under Keane who never reached the same heights elsewhere.

And he gave a debut to our best youth product ever.

Keane's strength was without doubt getting the best of less talented players, Nyron, Whitehead, Collins etc

he defs struggled the bigger name the player was
