Roy Keane

We’ve been the biggest club in this league for four years now and look where it’s got us?

Having a ‘buzzing’ club doesn’t guarantee anything in this league. If that was the case why didn’t we just employ Keane at the start of the season and we’d be as good as promoted by now?
🥱

Below a Max Power led Wigan side.
Unable to set up a defence in tier 3.

And that’s the players fault just as much! Would love to know which group have the cheek to question the decision when it was ultimately their performances that got him sacked

If it happened I’d guess it’d be characters like Bailey Wright and Carl Winchester. I’d assume they’d be fairly loyal to him given they have long history.

There’s the “modern day football” bollocks again. As if it’s now a 15 a side game played on hoverboards.
This. Modern football. The blokes got more medals and silverware than virtually anyone. Greatest ever captain and arguably the greatest premier league midfielder ever.

I haven't posted much and not for a while, but I think I may have said it in here before that when Keane took over in 2006 I was genuinely concerned he would fire you on. I thought he had eveything, and felt sick after the derby defeat in the year we went down. Make no mistake that was a pivotal result.

I don't know the ins and outs as to why he left but I have always thought it was a mistake on both sides.

I'm not sure why I feel compelled to come on here but I find myself strangley excited. Maybe because I feel a bit envious that just as in 2006 I feel he is the right man for you and he's a proper football man, a blast from the past which may not work nowadays but I do think there is unfinished business.

It could because I just can't wait for derby Day again (which could be sooner rather than later). I hope it goes through and works out for you because the thought of seeing him brooding on the touchline on derby day stirs the blood in my veins. We need more characters like Roy, more so than ever in today's game.

Good Luck!

If he takes it, the groundsman is in for an absolute *******ing due to the state of the pitch.

I predict he'll be the first to take a Keane dressing down.

FFS...did they think they were gonna get promoted flunking a result every four games?

If they thought that then they need Roy Keane as much as we do.
McGeady alluded to the lack of self-belief from certain players becoming an inhibitor to success, that was a while ago so not sure who it applies to now. We've certainly got the talent, we'll find out who's got the mentality to match.

Keane's biggest mistake was appointing his mate who had been coaching kids at Leicester. If he come he better bring a good assistant or it will turn sour pretty quickly.
Is this the same Tony Loughlan who was number 2 to Sean Dyche in the premier league last season?

He had a hip replacement in July so stood down at Burnley. He'll probably be back and I'll be glad. He and Keane led us to an outstanding promotion!

Just seen the story about Woodgate being in the frame too. Keane or Woodgate gives me flashbacks to the days just before Bruce there was a random story about Mancini being offered it.

Probably the ones selected when fit on a regular basis.

Gooch springs to mind. Been here a long time wouldn't move when shown the door.

Fair assumption - well they can get to fuck. Both culpable for utter shite performances on multiple occasions.

Do they not understand? Anything but top 2 is not good enough!! Granted he didn’t get to see the season out, but the way it was going AND the way they were performing didn’t indicate a likely top 2 finish. Letting Wigan get 4 games in hand on same points. Blowing the lead at the top at least twice. All the results I mentioned previously.

I’d still prefer Rob Edwards from FGR - I think he’s going to be a fantastic coach. However, I feel like I would crawl on broken glass from here to Sunderland to be there when Roy Keane comes out of the tunnel for the first time.
