What’s McCann’s PPG ratio in the second division and top flight compared to Keane’s? Well I can help out with the top flight one without looking like
The championship? No clue mate, won’t be good considering he lost 14 out of 18 to get Hull relegated. I’d guess maybe 0.9? McCann is dirt.

Henderson loved him. Says everything when you look at how his career has gone.

Everything he says suggests to me that he simply doesn't suffer fools, won't pander to slackers and demands people act with professionalism. Players and staff who tick those boxes get along with him no problem. The ones that don't are called out. And rightly so - it's his job to call it out.

That Neville interview has so many brilliant nuggets of that attitude. When he's talking about hitting the roof because the Ireland team turned up for a tournament and nobody had arranged any kit or equipment for them, he recalls turning around ad seeing some of the Ireland squad laughing about it. "Yeah, laugh it up boys - that attitude's why you lot have never won anything with your f***ing clubs....". Or when he's talking about the players at Aston Villa who would talk down to the staff in the canteen etc.

Achieved more than both as a manager
Maybe my post has been misinterpreted going by the first two replies. Keane is a poor appointment, but he’s infinitely better than McCann or Neil, who are garbage. Having said that if we appoint Keane, KLD is a waste of space and we might as well have kept Short. It also means Speakman is a waste of space.

I read it in a much more balanced way. His reputation means that certain players will always be able to blame their own failures on him - "he wasn't nice to me" etc; but people who perform for him, put in the effort in training and act like proper professionals seem to love him.
I think that is fair, but it also seems like those players are quite rare, and more importantly, he simply can't deal with the other ones? If he can't accept players' failings then he is going to have serious issues with League One. Screaming in players' faces about how shit they are week in week out when they fail to trap a ball or whatever is going to cause problems.

I also told like the contrarian stuff. Just trying to pick a fight with players for the sake of it (e.g. 'why weren't some of you arrested last night, I expected you to have character') is a poor reflection on him.

I think the worst bits for me were his time after management though. When Edwards says he hasn't changed one bit now he's a pundit. Or the fact he was exactly the same as assistant manager at Ireland and Forest. I would want to see some signs of reflection and growth really.

The story goes that Keane walked into the youth team or whatever Henderson was in at the time and asked them who thought that they were good enough for the first team. Only Henderson put his hand up, and Keane immediately shifted him to training with them.
Source - an FA scout with loads of reputable contacts in the NE.
Would epitomise Henderson's qualities and winning mentality as much as Keane's management style.
