Player we sold that most gutted you

Even though Marco was my first 'hero' for Sunderland I can't really remember him leaving as was young

Bridges
Hutchison
Johnson
Gray
SKP
Julio
Cana
Bent
Gyan

.... I grew up after that. Although I think Neil and Stewart would wound me if they went too soon. I like our current crop.

Fot some reason the real kicker for me was Mickey bridges. Thought he was quality and to sell to Leeds was a nightmare. Hate Leeds. Watching him bang 20 goals in was the biggest what could have been as a fan. Some might say Phillip's but we had his best days.
Marco. I still remember coming from school and my dad telling me, I was devastated, then mag school “friends” rubbed it in to me the bastards
Julio Arca to Boro.
Funny story about him, I was halfway through getting “Julio is better than maradona“ (like was on that flag that was always in south east corner) tattooed on my leg when news came through, had to get tattooist to stop, so I literally have EL JULIO ES on my leg, but thankfully I met him once so he signed it and I went to nearest tattooist and get his autograph tattooed under it. He also loves it that I had it done😂

This thread simply confirms what I've always felt. Nobody got you off your seat in my time supporting Sunderland than Marco. I'm 51. For the younger posters forget about what you hear him say on the radio now. In his time here he was simply blistering. The buzz in the ground when he picked the ball up on the halfway and set off. The Watford hat-trick. The winner against the Mags. The header against Man City.

I was devastated when he left. Couldn't see how we were ever going to score again. :p

Same for me. I was working in the Red Lion in Wetherby and Bridges came in with what I presume was his agent and the only conclusion I could draw is that he'd been at the nearby Leeds Thorp Arch training pitch. He signed a couple of days later. Even if we just got one more season out of him we might of finished top 6/4.
Selling Kaboul was really disappointing. Such an important player going to Watford ffs

Jim Baxter
Kevin Phillips
Colin Todd
Jordan Pickford
Jim.Montgomery
AS a kid, I worshiped Baxter because his skills were sublime yet I know he represented a dark (McColl) period at the club.
I knew we were on the slide when SKP left - awful day.
Same with Todd, although relegation made it inevitable. Same with Pickford.
Monty? My hero? I know he was getting past his best but how could Sunderland ever, ever, EVER sell Monty?
