It's more that FFP is based on accounting profits and losses, and not cash flows.
For large fees, instalments are pretty much standard. For smaller fees, like the £200k fee rumoured for Trai Hume, it's often just paid in cash. There are exceptions - Ashley always paid Newcastle's fees up front.

Great season, then signed Anita for £6m in the summer and let others overtake us. Anything good from the Ashley regime was followed by senseless decisions. Bruce would still on 0 wins and in a job as long as he was an effective human shield.
