Your West indies squad and 1st test team

I’m just reading a Twitter thread on Joe Clarke with people saying he should never ever be selected etc

I know the lad on here said he knew stuff about him but it we stick to what’s in the Public domain to people think he should never be picked again?

I understand he behaved poorly and Imorally but he didn’t break a law. I dunno I guess I’m never really a fan of not giving people 2nd chances of the ability to grow up and become better person

Interested to know people’s thoughts on this. As I was a bit taken back by how sure people were on Twitter he shouldn’t play

Depends on the context but he wouldn't be currently playing professional cricket if it was that bad IMO.

I'm not against him being selected. The main discussion seems to centre around having these "Characters" in the dressing room, trust etc - this is what Morgan always reflects on when Hales' name is mentioned.

Let's not forget, we were number one in the world with KP in the dressing room, one of the most divisive figures in English cricket and we were successful under Vaughan with Flintoff in the side who was barely a model of professionalism.

I suppose it is different when linked to potential criminal offences but he wasn't convicted of anything so it's a redundant argument for me. Penalising someone for a crime they didn't commit.

YeH it’s a difficult one and a grey area. I don’t wanna get too specific as I’m probs talking out of my depth but if you read the text messages he sent, which seems to be the issue, I mean they’re awful, not something I or my mates would ever have sent, but it’s not unimaginable that this goes on with 20 year olds a lot. However when you see it In in the context of what happened next it looks even worse.

But he didn’t do that himself did he. So I think it’s harsh to write off someone’s life off for what someone else done

This was the thread I saw, and was some pretty strong opinions by women in there, which I can understand.

I just think he was 20. Very young.

Just wasn’t sure if I was judging this wrong or not

robinson got a 2nd chance, KP and Flintoff got many chances, Hales had 2 chances...

id say give the lad a chance, if hes not good enough then wheres the harm if he is what people say he is, if it turns out hes good enough then he will need to be given clear guidelines as to whats expected of him as an international cricketer.

Aye fair enough mate

Clarkes numbers dont look like amazing now, although not bad, but when he was younger he was on a smilar track to Root, averaged 45 in the CC over a few years and had like 7,8 100s by his early 20s.

He is also a pretty classical player, which is unusual for the ones we have called up recently

My hunch is, after everything that has happened with the Yorkshire thing, and other off field incidents, Robinson etc, that the ECB has a bit cross through his name

If he gets called up, then the papers will run with the story, getting quotes from certain campaign groups etc, as thats their job

His numbers dipped because he had a shocking year around the time/fallout of the court case...we havent got the strength in depth to not pick our strongest batters ( if he does turn out that way).... I also think Hales in for Morgan would be a natural fit when he does call time on his career (which again should probably be soon - with Buttler Captain)

I agree

Hales gets a lot of stick in the media, some of it his own doing originally, but he is now just an easy person to load stuff on and criticise. I got told that his absence from the team is actually more to do with his lass, who was best mates with a lot of the England wags, including the key players. I wouldnt be surprised if that was true personally.

He should be in the team for me
