MotM Vs Pompey

Always pleasing to see there’s quite a few candidates for Motm.

I’d go for Cirkin with mentions in dispatches for Doyle, Danny B and Gooch.

Ding dong, play up Pompey, Pompey Feck Off

Good performance after a slow start. Once we started to press we took control of the game. Gets some confidence back
Thought the back line looked solid and Barth really organised the defence well and helps out both Doyle and Hoffman.
We moved the ball around better in the middle than the last couple of games but need to be more clinical still.
The press was the most pleasing thing and gave us our best opportunities and Dajaku was the main lad with that. He did well with his crossing and decision making too. Embleton linked well with him and other than set pieces played really well today.

Between Barth, Dajaku and Embo for me and young Dajaku gets the vote.

Honourables for Doyle and Evans
Was working and didn't watch all of it (probably about 60 mins) so can't give a motm, but I was really impressed with dajakus work rate.

Cirkin was fantastic in the 2nd half, something was off with our shape first half as at times he literally had no one in front of him.

Doyle, Dajaku and Batth were all great was was Evans. I'm going to go with Batth by a whisker over Doyle for his added leadership qualities as he was talking to the other lads all the time.

It's spelt Hoffmann FFS.

Evans. Class.

Mentioned him at half time to my brother who replied that he didn't know he was on the pitch. Told him to watch how easy he makes things look in the second half.

Agreed with me that he was our best player as we were walking out of the ground.

Aye?

First 45 mins:

Least amount of touches in our team (2nd least on the pitch).
60% pass completion - competed 6 (six! ) passes in an entire half of football.
0 dribbles
Won less headers than Neil
3 tackles (joint second highest with Cirkin after Dajaku).

I'll be honest I'm surprised there's that many different opinions, I thought Stewart was absolutely miles ahead of anyone else.
He's just absolutely different class to anybody we've had up front for years. He's consistently good in the air and on the ground, he's 6'3, works his arse off and never gets tired, he's got pace and mobility, his movement is good, has great touch and holds it up well, he can pass, he can score with his head and both feet, and he's clever and he's a teamplayer...

He's so good he's caused me to wrote a ludicrously long sentence with comma splicing 😄

Are all those saying Gooch on an absolute wind up ? Nearly put us in trouble twice in last few minutes , kids brain doesn't work . Energetic right enough but thick as mince football wise

Couple of misunderstandings at the end but he was superb most of the game, especially going forward.

Couple of decent crosses , usual high energy , enough involvement but he is what he is for me , too many blind allys , wrong side tackles , Holds the ball long after the right pass opens up, stays down when the refs not blowing , a footballer of very little brain always looking for his own glory like he's still 11 ...and he should be out of that by now.

Evidence based correction….these stats confirm my perception of his contribution. As the captain and midfield base he must do much much more to warrant a starting place.
