Latest atrocity by the mags owners. Imagine how depraved you’d have to be to spend your leisure time assisting these scumbags with their propaganda campaign? But that’s what being a mag is all about these days.

Their transfer business seems to be to low ball clubs but offer extortionate wages to players to try and get them to force moves. Did it with Botman as well but he didn't fancy it.

Not sure how that will play out, particularly with aging middling south americans who move to Europe for the cash.
 
This was in the Times on Saturday. Didn’t notice any reference to it in Caulkin’s latest Saudi PR piece, funnily enough:

An interesting update from The Times on Saturday regarding Nicky Hammond, whose temporary arrival at SJP was only revealed on December 17th:

It was Christmas Eve and Nicky Hammond’s brief work at Newcastle United was done. Hammond had picked up the reins at the world’s richest football club before the new Saudi owners’ first transfer window. He was expected to be the de facto chief executive, given the licence to launch a worldwide spending spree. Instead, his tenure was cut short.

From there, Newcastle’s recruitment team was whittled down to four — Amanda Staveley, who had led a four-year attempt to take over the club; Steve Nickson, the long-standing head of recruitment; Eddie Howe, the new head coach; and his No 2, Jason Tindall.

This had not been foreseen when Newcastle were taken over in October by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. It has meant that Howe has had far greater power over recruitment than had been expected when he was appointed in November.


explains why they’ve only managed to sign a couple of players through the Burnley old boy’s network. This lot are making Venkys Chicken look like geniuses so far.

He looked an average for Lique 1 centre half at Nantes/Nice/Nancy* a few years back. He may have improved since stepping up a notch in Spain at 26 or so years old or he may be surrounded by better players. I somehow doubt that’s what the mags were expecting through the door when the washing machine was delivered mind.

* Despite watching more French football than English since we left the PL I still struggle to differentiate the “N” and “L” clubs from each other. Lyon apart that is.

What happened with Hammond? Thought he was the second coming of Christ
 
Would make more sense to sign up-and-coming Championship players on the proviso they stick around after relegation, rather than problematic has-beens that are renowned for being lazy and pathologically self-centred, touted by slimy, crooked agents.

Nope, we're wasting time going for 'names' that are less 'marquee' and more weather-beaten one berth pop up tent stationed by the river.
