South Africa v India test series

Kohli questioning another review decision against him

I actually understood his confusion there. It wasn’t conclusive one way or another whether the spike in the second frame was bat on ball or a continuation of bat on ground. There wasn’t any evidence to give him out of course, but they should’ve explained it better and perhaps allowed India to keep their review.

In principle I agree, but the problem with allowing a team to keep a review for something like that is that it's purely down to an individual's interpretation of whether it's inconclusive or definitely not out. So as soon as the 3rd umpire makes the call to allow the team to keep their review or otherwise, the opposition will be all over it. Imagine India being told they can't keep a review when they believe it's inconclusive.

It works for LBW because the margins of what constitutes umpire's call are clearly defined and interpretation doesn't come into it.

Agreed, a great series.

This South African team are really good to watch, a proper test cricket team and, unlike the Indians, not a bellend in sight. Really looking forward to seeing them over here this summer and hoping I strike lucky in the Lord's ballot.

Well done SA, India were pretty poor since that Elgar decision.

They will cause us problems in the summer
Did Kohli just say they won in England? Isn’t the 5th test still being played this year?

All the English media saying they did too

Annoyed the hell out of me. They just left early

Such a dangerous trend to set

Really liked South Africa’s approach to the last two tests. Realised they didn’t have any all rounders up to standard and just said fuck it lets play five specialist bowlers. That decision ended up winning them the series, they might look a bit silly in the future doing it when they get skittled for 80 but there’s no doubting their ability to take 20 wickets with four genuine quicks and a specialist spinner.

I think Janssen could turn into a decent allrounder, he's looked handy with the bat and if his bowling continues to impress the way it has so far, he'll be a fixture in the team for the next 15 years. At least South Africa aren't likely to fall into the English trap of focusing all their attention on his batting to the detriment of his bowling.

I have also been impressed with Petersen, van der Dussen and Bavuma and the way they've grown in confidence through the series. In the first test, South Africa looked in trouble as soon as Elgar got out, 2nd test he hung around while they started to back him up, this test they took up the baton very well.
