It’s not Sunderland’s decision to call the game off, it’s the EFL’s. As long as you have 14 fit players (including a keeper) then you have to play. Hence why Appleton said they were 1 more injury from getting the game called off last night.
For those using the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Leicester as an example of clubs bending the rules - the play in a different competition from Sunderland with a different governing body. The EFL made it plainly clear from the start - 14 players and the game must be played.
And FFS, it’s postpone, not cancel. Different meanings!!!

No rose tinted glasses here far from it! Do you honestly think we will have a fully fit squad? Do you honestly think we will mKd 3 new decent signings? My real beef is however with all this postponement mullarkey. Its making football a farce and clubs are just taking the piss when it suits. I fully understand your sentiments though.
Mind I think you're the one who needs to take his specs off!!!! If I had it my way I would make all clubs fulfil fixtures irredpeirrespective to cut out all this rule

of course no team has a fully fit squad but not as depleted as we are , 3rd choice goalkeepers ,players who we had out on loan because we don't want them recalled and on the bench ,why did we bust a gut to play them games ? ,and if KLD does not get a few signings in Jan the fans could start to ask questions.
Just think we've been naive and not streetwise like other clubs .
If Hoffmann isn't fit for sat don't play the game.play the covid card, 90% of other clubs are.

Our opinions differ. Fair enough. But as mentioned in previous post my main gripe is about how every team is bending rules to suit. It's farcical. The powers that be should do something to stop all this rule bending. But don't ask me how!!! Unless of course they insist a team is fielded irrespective even if they play youth team players. It's all a farce in my opinion. For the record I'm not convinced that we will obtain automatic promotion but believe we have a good chance

Easy to say we shouldn't have played those games now we know we've only taken a point from six. Ironic that part of the reason for playing them will have been avoiding two more fixtures later in the season and the risk of players becoming fatigued and injured that brings, then we've lost Evans and Winchester from them.
All a club has to do at the minute is say this player and that player have pulled up in training and can't make the game.
No idea how it's policed at the minute but it should be proof of any positive covid tests and injuries don't count.

No transparency..... so some clubs could say we've got x4 positive and waiting for results for another 6....could all be bullshit just to get game called off
Just noticed no league one postponements this Saturday.... Most Div 1 had "mid season break".... Except us LJ effed up

I totally get your point of view but the powers to be can't control it , do not know how to control it ,so just take the clubs "word" that they have less than 14 players due to covid ,due to human rights and privacy laws the players cannot be named or asked to be named by the league hence everyone is playing the game to suit them ,except greengrass Sunderand.
I know its wrong and against many principles of fair play ,but guess what ? these teams are pulling ahead with points and games in hand, que the "games in hand mean nothing brigade" guess what ? just because we have blew games in hand on 2 occasions in previous seasons doesn't say Wigan will .
I'd swap Wigans position with 6 games in hand over our position any day of the week ,and Wigan may get an extension to the season ( world cup won't affect them or many clubs in this division)and new players in the Jan window that would not have played in the 2021 fixtures will be playing in the re arranged games .
Moyes said in a interview earlier in the week rearranged games should be played with no new players that have been bought or loaned in the Jan transfer window .
I honestly believed we would beat Lincoln even with a weakened team. Imo it was a minor (but annoying) setback after our decent unbeaten. I firmly believe we have the capability to beat Accrington also with a weakened team. Also it will give players opportunity to bounce back after the shit show on Tuesday. However I'm not naive enough to think this will actually happen. But this is one reason why I said I wouldn't call for postponement. But this was fuelled by the main fact I'm pissed off with these postponements

With Winchester out and the revelation that Pritchard was carrying a knock going into Tuesday’s game there is no way way we should be going away to a decent Accrington team who have just beaten Rotherham at home with a team made up of recalled loanees from Notts County, Harrogate and Tranmere with absolutely Jack shit on the bench.
If 3+ of the Covid absentees are fit (Hoffmann has to be one) then fair enough.

Lincoln had just beaten Oxford 2/0 and you think we would have beaten them with a weakened team? That was rather optimistic
We could not get out of this division with a full strength team,how on earth can we compete effectively with loads of players out ?

One of the first things I noticed about the lad. Watch the Rotherham highlights, all 5 goals scored in the 6 yard box.
Lincoln were in the bottom 4 of the form table mate, 1 win in 9 games. Sunderland were third in the form table, undefeated in 10 in the league.
We’d won our last 3 home midweek games 5-0.
Sunderland had a few players out but could still name a full squad with a full bench. Lincoln could only name 4 subs, of which 1 was a keeper - 13 available outfield players.
Sunderland joint top of the league, Lincoln just above relegation zone.
These were the stats before the game. It was the perfect time to play Lincoln, they’ve been shit lately and had a more depleted squad than Sunderland. Nobody’s fault we lost the other night apart from the players, who put in a piss poor performance.
