Ashley Giles

Interesting that.

I'd like a couple of overseas men to take a look at the state of English cricket, I've always felt (although they're in the media and have their failures either on or off the pitch, in the past) the likes of Staruss, Husssain, Atherton, Gough etc could form a panel and quickly identify and suggest soloutions to problems.

Never happen though.

He's also on the board if England Netball.

I've now idea how he got that role.

Appointed by Colin Povey, also CEO of Warwickshire and Giles' gaffer for many years. Povey also appointed David Parsons, former ECB performance director 2006-2019. Not sure if he was on Warwickshire's books but he's another Brummie.

Make of that what you will.

Has been ‘tasked’ with writing a report into the failings of the England Test team…

… That’s the same Ashley Giles who has been in charge of development of English Test Cricketers since 2015. Around about the time it all started going to shit.

Rotten to the f*cking core.
Jobs for the boys yet again. Giles and Silverwood should walk.

I reckon most outsiders coming in would say county cricket needs trimming down and made more competitive

It absolutely stinks doesn’t it. Corruption all over the place.

You can bet your bottom dollar that Giles Clarke is still pulling the strings behind it all, too. He more than anyone has done more to damage English cricket in pursuit of money than anyone else. It seems to be that so long as you have Giles in your name, you have a free hand to destroy the game without consequence.

Saddens me to see people (usually casual fans) parroting this truism.

Let's destroy a 130 year old tournament that made England top team in the world for large parts of its history because we lost an away Ashes series we didn't prepare for, led by a total spanner of a coach.

Explain how the CC is any less competitive than any other first class tournament? There have been seven different winners in the last ten years. A lot of these 'small counties' Harrison and Co would love to relegate into obscurity have been successful in identifying and nurturing future England players. Somerset's relationship with its public schools, or Durham academy for example.

Hands off the CC. Sack the ECB.

Actually the most people I here this from is not casual fans but ex players particularly foreign ex players and coaches who have come to this country and see far to much cricket played and not enough real top quality cricket played.

These people are not bothered about the internal politics and in some cases will not have heard of Harrison and co, they simply see that too much cricket is played in this country and not enough high quality.

Personally I think we should have only one shorter format game, whether it be the blast or the hundred not really bothered, more red ball cricket played in the summer, less red ball cricket and more top quality red ball cricket

Which ex-players are you referring to? The only one I hear shouting about this is Kevin Pietersen, who as we all know is an utter gobshite.

I've never heard respected foreign coach James Franklin or ex England legend Ian Botham saying the CC is too big and we just need to relegated Durham to a semi-pro feeder club for Yorkshire.

No skin off your nose, you have no interest in the county game by your own admission. I.e. casual fan proving my point

Nail on head there.

Indian players don't even play in there's. They seem to be fine all over the globe.

I taking about players and coaches from abroad, Kirsten said in his recent interview far too much cricket played in this country and he dead right imo.

And as much as I agree with you fully with Pieterson as hate the block as utter prick on this particular subject he is right.

It’s myth that I am not interested in the county game, I am.

What I have said is have no interest or affiliation with Durham that’s not the same as saying not interested in the county game

I follow the county game every season, and tend to back and have a bet Somerset each season, to my loss as they seem to have finished in the bridesmaid position almost every year I have back them

I actually didnt mind Giles sticking up for the player about the Covid stuff

its hard to seperate the disapointment from fans about the results with this but the players have been hung out to dry

Australia have not played 1 test away from home since the 2019 ashes

we have played 10 last year!

its ridicuous man

never mind that a lot are multi format players too

I think most fans are angry with the coach and ECB for their shocking preparation, strategy and selection rather than the players. This team are far better than what they're showing in this series

Finny on the TMS podcast said it was Ashley Giles who stopped football during warm-ups, which the players love. Bayliss and Farbrace started it back up. Said everyone across the county circuit says “you don’t want Giles as a coach he doesn’t let you play football”

Absolutely not surprised in the slightest that it was the complete wet wipe Giles who stopped it
