Side for the 4th test (if it happens)

he's an opener

canny important when you are an opener

its also handy that he's utter shite too
Surely you grasp the point mate if a opener scores 400 runs over a certain period with 6 ducks and another opener scores 300 runs over the same period with 0 ducks.

The first one has done better

Therefore just focusing on how many ducks somebody gets is not really that relevant

It is like

Thank god he didnt play India, would be double figures.

I'm never sure about that. Would you want an opener who scores 30 every time off 100 balls or an opener who goes 60 one innings, 0 the next. I appreciate fully its not really the case with England since all of our openers are technically derelict

Burns was the second highest run scorer despite missing the easiest two tests of the year in Sri Lanka.

Yes he needed taking out the firing line, but for Crawley?! It's an insult.

I would. I've no issue with Burns being dropped, I've made that clear. But the lad replacing him is a f***ing joke. Like turning down Zendaya for Dawn f***ing French

I'd rather they tried someone with a higher ceiling, no point sticking with 31 year old whose average will be below 30 by end of series

Anyway we will be trying some new players soon enough

Its really not worth arguing he should be in the side and getting worked up over like. He was shocking.

But Crawley doesn't score 30 from 100 balls. He gets to twelve of 14, then nicks off!

I totally disagree with your point like btw

I want an opener who consistently stays in

People laugh, but we just need openers who can see off the new ball

exposing our middle order 6 times in a year like he has done just alone isnt good enough

I've made this point for over 12 months now btw.

Loads of single figure scores then a 60 isnt good enough

I'd rather someone just batted time every innings

I just stunned that people are defending that logic

What ceiling does Crawley have? The new James Vince it we're lucky

It’s like anything else in any sport you have to pick the best person in that position and in this case it’s two positions.

Imo there is simply not two better opening batsman in this country than Rory Burns, I genuinely think that he is currently the best opening bat available for selection for England.

Despite all the criticism of Burns nobody has made a argument anyone is better than him.

I mean not getting bowled by a half volley on leg stump from the first ball would be a start

then being the 2nd senior batsman in the side and hiding at the other end and letting Hameed face it

Again its also how lazy he is, hasnt worked on his technique once

its exactly the same as it was during his first test

thats really really poor proffesionalism

Yep. And no-one can get anywhere near naming a better replacement.

Once again mate I can only repeat for the 150th time I get your logic but the other options are worse imo.

That’s because there isn’t one!!!

Why is this relevant?

Opening is the hardest job in the team.

The guy whose record he beat, Pankaj Roy, was an opener.

I could understand dropping him if his confidence was shot to shit as a result of the record, but as an opener I'd be more interested in balls faced and form not number of ducks. He is in poor form but Crawley is worse so he should play.

That said, if it was my call I'd ask Joe to stop hiding from the new ball at number four and lead from the front for the rest of the series.
