Are you missing the £5m bonus thing for staying up that would be on top of the huge wages? This is something SAFC could never have offered and players on big wages could move on or stay if no relegation clause. Rodwell aside, decent players like Defoe etc weren't seen as a big money grabbing mercenary failures in the way any players will be if the Mags go down with new players.

Aubameyang won't go to NUFC as he's on silly money now so already a multi millionaire that could retire tomorrow if he wanted. So would he want a few million more, given his current contract was worth over £50m, on the gamble on keeping NUFC up by grafting but potentially failing? Other players on much less than his £350,000 a week will certainly be tempted if there is a wage increase along with a huge 'staying up' bonus on the table along with possibly other incentives but again there is that relegation factor to consider.

That £50m is probably only half of what NUFC would lose in revenue if relegated and that's not including how it would fuck up the 'project' dramatically with at least 1 season in the Championship. In the short term NUFC may well overpay players to come but they will desperately want to stay up this season and long term a few million wasted here and there on a few players will be fuck all long term.

Absolutely obsessed with Sunderland. I would agree that Newcastle have more fans than we do. It means fuck all in the grand scheme of things and they can't stop talking about 'little Sunderland'.
