As many have said he works hard and has some good technical skills but I think he suffers from not having a real position and not being good enough to warrant being allowed to float across the front line. Does an adequate job usually when called upon because of attitude more than ability
I think the fact he was, for want of a better phrase, our marquee signing on big wages also factors in to how negatively he is perceived especially when players like Fraser were available on free transfers at the time. I hope he does leave but wish him no ill and thank him for his effort.

I said he might be on account of how Championship Millwall fans loved him and his ability to chip in with important goals when they were promoted, as well as being an Ireland international. He hasn't lived up to what I had hoped but he's clearly valued and respected within the club by the manager and his team mates who had taken us top of the league on Thursday night with a 5-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday. If some on here don't value or respect him and would like to use him to point score, it says more about them than him.
It says they are thick mate.

Lads give his all, I reckon he’s gifted enough technically with a good touch but he’s far to slow. If he had any pace at all he’d be decent imo but he doesn’t. Anyhow this has stemmed from pure speculation and he could well be here for the remainder of his contract.

he has a promotion on his CV though....and the cretinous multitudes on here think thats importat or something..
Wow. You really have a superiority complex and disdain for Sunderland fans. I’ll ask you again- why, as a bloke from Ireland with no connection to Sunderland who doesn’t even go to games and doesn’t like the fans, do you invest so much time and emotion on this message board ?

It's a good question.

Not in the bottom 100 worst safc players but was very poor.

   :lol:sorry mate but that's bollocks. You could maybe argue we've had a bunch of kids who played half a game over the years who were worse but he has been a first team player in the worst team we've ever had and was one of the worst within it. Dave Swindlehurst was twice the player and he was utterly chod

O'Brien has a great attitude, decent technical ability and puts the 'ilkustrious' Grigg to shame. He has been unlucky in front of goal a few times and has missed a few sitters too. Sometimes I think he tries too hard. Calling him worse than shite is unfair. He has his limitations but has made good contributiins as a squad player. He suffers from a lack of an obvious position, fitting in for the team rather than being an out and out striker. I wouldn't want him as first choice and if we can replace him with someone better that will be good. It is a mark of his character that he wants first team football and will move to get it. If he does go I wish him well, not quite good enough but deserving of respect for all his effort and a proper professiona, unlike so many others in recent seasons.
