Methven at the match

Quite simply one should be judged by their actions and results, and as a director of Sunderland he is presiding over a club that is still in League 1 when it has all the credentials of a Premier League club, years & years now after acquiring influence.

His call centre like soundbites in the ticket office during "Sunderland Till I Die" hold no credence, whatever his remit he has failed catastrophically and as far as I am concerned we have seen all we need to see in terms of whether he is the standard bearer for our club.

He's not a director. If he's at the games he should only be there as a fan.
 
The thing with CM is that he basically said he was stepping into the background two years ago but is gradually attending more and more matches including representing SAFC in opponents boardrooms.

He is an associate of Sartori who by all accounts was influential in bringing KLD to the club, despite Juan’s lack of time at SAFC whilst becoming heavily involved in Uruguayan politics which has hardly allowed him to start the Latin American flow of talent to Wearside that he mentioned at the start of his involvement with the club, similar to Methven’s statement that he wanted to base Sunderland on the Dortmund model which he has never mentioned or followed up since. Why do people say these things and then do zilch about it? Or do they just hope dense football fans forget about it?

He’s insulted our fan base too much to be forgiven by most but Methven hasn’t even tried to apologise properly to one of the most loyal sets of fans in world football (don’t say that lightly but 30k plus gates in the third tier for the fourth season running is proof of such a statement allied to a fantastic away following too). A little bit of humility towards the northern ignoramuses might just make a few people think that the seeming Old Etonian arrogance has a humble side to it.

As a footnote to my post I reckon Moyes and Bain, with Byrne not far behind, are to blame for our current status. Short was a hopeless owner, an absentee landlord who didn’t have his finger on the pulse and employed over paid nonentities on and off the pitch that caused us to end up in the third tier.

SD and CM have much to answer for but the fire was burning badly prior to their arrival.

Quinn's departure left Short driving blindly into a cul-de-sac with a breeze block on the accelerator. His director of football approach was an abysmal failure. The De Fanti appointment being perhaps the worst.
 
of course he attends matches..he has put a "substantial amount" of his personal cash into the clubover the past year..he is going to want tosee how thats going..
but he isnt a director

i basically agree with this but the ryansachs apointment was the worst...people talked, with some justification, about the quality of appointments by donald, but all of them were different league to sachs coming in.

Byrne was by far the worst, closely followed by Bain and Moyes.

I personally think the damage was done before Moyes. Apart from Allardyces skill in keeping us up the rest was a complete mess - contracts, recruitment, business all dire. Totally inconsistent football strategy having seen off a multitude of managers. Short appointed who he appointed and messed it all up before going on a long holiday then offloading us to some opportunists. A very arrogant man who didn’t deserve the hotel he stole from the club.

Please provide proof of this substantial cash? As far as I’m aware the club is still owed £20m. Please no riddles, spelling mistakes or deflections in your response.

I still struggle with this. The club owed the debt, Short payed the debt (to make it look like the club was debt free) and the 20 million was given to Short.

If SD and co had bought the club for 15 million with a 25 million debt this would never get brought up, other than to say they got the club at a bloody good price.
 
Given we are currently doing well, it figures that he has popped his head up. It’s what he does. Jump on the back of success that is being achieved in spite of his hapless involvement.

the club is not owed £20m..because the accounts show donald put £2m in during the last financial year..so that knocks the total down to £18m as at the end of the last financial reporting period.
My proof for the other statement is in the minutes of the recent meeting between the club and the RAWA supporters groupwhere the club rep said that while the full £20m hasnt been paid back-each of the shareholders put a substantial sum" into the club over the past year to cover costs related to the pandemic.
Other threads on this board have shown the losses endured by clubs as large and successful as chelsea during the pandemic period (they made a profit and paid the owner a dividend the prior year), do you think safc would not have lost a fortune during the period if the champions league winners did?
And who do you think covered the losses if not the shareholders-and the minutes show ALL shareholders put cahs in? Unless your saying Steve Davison, an appointee of KLD is a liar, and therefore..KLD is lying?

The evidence of what is happening and what has happened has emerged in the financial statements and companies house filing, here has been oodles of speculation on this board and elseswhere(andmuch of it contributed by me unfortuantely) about the finances..but we no longer need to speculate, as the facts are emergng via the financial statements, something which will only continue as the years pass.
