We started off well under Silverwood getting a lot more 400+ scores than we had been under Bayliss.

That was the bloody frustrating thing about his sides. Went too reckless when players were set.

Then we started fannying on with a solid base of Stokes 6, Bairstow 7 Moeen 8

I still go to the 2016 India series as a moment that ended it for me with Bayliss. We should and could have won that series.

But we had players throwing away their wickets with daft shots time and time again.

No bloody doubt about how badly it's ended up under Silverwood in 2021.

Apparently the plan under Silverwood was not to play as many shots and not be too reckless.

Now we certainly not reckless, as we can’t score runs full stop quickly or slowly!!

Given his recent form and historic back troubles I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if Morgan calls it a day after the world cup. I totally get the point about his attitude/approach but I just think it's a few years too late for him to be an option.

No, of course it's not the issue but for me it is an issue. I've always thought Root does some odd things as captain e.g. Green had faced two balls the other night so he had Leach bowl at him with one slip as the only catcher. I know we were defending a low total but that just allows him to play himself in with no pressure when really you should be looking to go bang, bang. He's never struck me as being captain material, he just seemed to get the job by default because he was the only batsman guaranteed a game. It's far from the first thing I'd look to change though.

He wanted to play positive and it was seen as a negative by some.

Now we don’t play positive we just play shit

I totally agree.

I don’t think we have a veteran sort who can come in and not be bothered about what people think. Broad is possibly closest out of the whole set up. And I don’t think he’s an answer. Obviously stokes is the standout contender but he would end up killing himself and bowling himself into the ground as the others won’t follow plans! Maybe if he only wanted to play tests could it be considered

Coaching wise we need to look beyond a coach, it’s the positions around him that need altering again- a proper root and branch clean up. Selector,overlord,coaches and captains.

I’d hoy Collingwood forward as a serious option from my limited knowledge of the available personnel. But again he’s a boy from within the system.

It’s a very very grim situation
 
People with the Morgan comparisons need to stop, so much easier to implement strategies in games that last 50 and 20 overs

even heard rob key say stokes was great captian in the ODIs against Pakistan, yea I am sure you are correct, but that has no relevant on test cricket

motivating, and having the ability to play good cricket for 90 overs a day or whatever is incredibly hard, its not something you can easily change, you need a lot of talent

Morgan played test cricket, scored a 100 but batted after probs our best ever lineup, and was found out.

Its f***ing hard.

Broad is averaging nearly 40 this year and not with the bat he can barely carry. You can't really say he deserves his place in the team, given there are two fast medium seamers who average under 21 - the only two players, other than Root and the real Ben Stokes who definitely still play. If they even want to.

He'll retire imo. It's a fine mess. If Root sacks it, as I expect he will, then there is only Stokes, Robinson and Anderson to pick from. Unless you take a punt on someone.

Again I agree Broad is about finished. Maybe one last home series for the road.

Anderson would Be an option in the short term,but it’s far too short term. We seem to have just stumbled into this mess slowly without ever thinking long term. I think we need to go back to foakes behind the stumps, he’s reasonable with the bat,better than the rest behind the stumps could he be given a shot. All a big fuck off mess which is par for the course with the ECB
