Predict 5 players who will make their England test debut in 2022.

Always huge outcry and then changes after an Ashes hammering. Looking at possible players to get a chance of making their debut in 2022.

1 Yates (Warwickshire)
2 Smith (Surrey)
3 Mahmood. (Lancashire)
4 Brook. (Yorkshire)
5 Lees. (Durham)

The cupboard looks empty gone for a couple of opening batsmen and a couple of middle order batsmen.

Ah, Jamie Smith. Another old experienced pro we've bought for big money from another county.

Oh wait, nope - yet another excellent product of the Surrey youth academy

Don’t think so, think he was in the poor whatsapp group in the rape case. Can’t remember the lad who was convicted.
Yeah, he was involved in that group but I'm sure there was something else more recently that he got caught up in.

Edit - it was an affray charge in June but it was dropped just before it was due to go to trial

He was on bail for Affray last summer. Not sure what happened to that.
Lees maybe, don’t know if he did much for the lions mind. Libby and Haines scored a lot of runs in the championship but again don’t know if they’ll be any good at test level
I think they might take Lees to the Caribbean. He is steady experienced and has a good temperament. Possibly just to steady things.

Are we just talking red ball here?

1 Yates
2 Libby
3 Livingstone
4 Parkinson
5 Critchley

Hedging my bets a touch here with the openers (1&2), someone will probably have to come in, but seeing as we don’t have a Test until later in the summer a lot will lie on the first halt of the seasons form (obviously). What I’m getting at, is that hese two excelled last year, as did Lees, but last seasons form is probably going to be forgotten about by the time any selection meeting comes around - both will be playing on good tracks at home and so both have a good chance of scoring runs and getting noticed.

Livingstone is an immense talent who in my view should’ve been in the current Ashes squad. From what I’ve seen and heard he has the sort of ego (in a good way) and self confidence that is needed to succeed at international level. I would’ve had no issue at all playing him in the side that started the Ashes series either and it’s my firm belief he’ll get a go sooner or later. It’s important we nurture his talent, because if we’re not careful he could be another one we lose to the white ball mercenary pool.

Parkinson is another who I’d have taken to Oz. Has a similar sort of self confidence and always seems to make things happen. A few top ex-spinners like him, which is good enough for me.

Critchley is the curve ball, not heard the pundits talk about him but someone who I’ve heard plenty of being the county cricket tragic that I am. He’s just secured a move to Essex where I think he’ll get plenty opportunity to improve and also catch the eyes of the media and therefore the selectors. Can bat pretty much anywhere in the side (and generally has done) whilst scoring 1,000 CC runs last term. On top of that, he is capable of bowling very tidy leg spin. Took 10 wickets in a match last season AND dismissed Steve Smith in 2019 in a Tour match ;)

Three spinning options in my suggestions there, but iirc we’re off to play Pakistan next winter (probably in the UAE??) and we all know how much the England setup likes someone who can bowl spin AND hold a bat at the same time.
