Rory Burns

Why the heck are we chatting about Root batting 3 for christs sake.

Malan is our top run scorer and has the highest average so far batting at 3.

What does swapping them round achieve exactly?
Whenever Malan gets in any team, in any format, people want to faff about with him or drop him. People were talking about dropping him from the T20 side when he was the number one batter in the world in that format.

He got world number 1 after going through an insane purple patch. He's much more useful as a test player imo

Cricinfo and the sun reporting him to be dropped for the mcg. If so at 31 probably means he’s finished. I’ve argued I would play him but he can have no complaints.

Got dropped in India but still managed to get back in the England side. Probably should be the end for him mind

You forget that Rory Burns is public school educated. Think about it.
So is his replacement.

It's just deckchairs on the Titanic again. I accept Burns deserved to be dropped but Crawley isn't any better. Burns and Sibley are the players we should have opening the batting, as they have the temperament, but the coaches have done nothing to help them improve.

I agree a lot on the coaches here like poor form from them

Batters out playing shots that should be left alone on this wicket. This sort of situational play is exactly what the coaches should be imparting on them. Why didn't we bring in an Australian batting consultant? What experience does this Ant Botha guy have of playing at the MCG?

Crawley wil never make an opening bat.

We need to move on from burns, not good enough.

I’d keep Malan, averaging 34 this year, got a dodgy dismissal this test too

Crawley will play the last 2 tests i reckon. Burns will replace Hameed as well. Not that it'll make any difference of course.

He's our second highest run scorer for the year.

Higher average than anyone else we've tried there for the last couple.

I know you hate having Surrey players in the team, but he's better than the other options and we have seen that, clear as day

Agree with this like. There’s no point saying we need to move on when his replacement is averaging 11 in the last 18 months.

Such a bizarre decision to drop him after batting for 100 balls in his last innings for a bloke who’s had no cricket for ages.

He’s nowhere near good enough

Should never play for England again

It’s not like sorry

He has 6 ducks this year

He’s 31

Played 31 test matches

We need to start picking players who have techniques not formed in a lab
