Chris Silverwood:

Saying that he’d pick the same team again for both tests is a concern. In his and Root’s assessment it seems that the only cog in the machine that doesn’t require change and improvement is the leadership and management decision making.
 

Another coach who's undoubted (and his case remarkable) success of coaching at county level doesn't translate to the international stage.

The Steve McLaren of cricket. I can think of no bigger damming indictment of Silverwood's coaching reign so far.

It's quite clear and has been for a while that there are two bowlers with 1000 test wickets, who run the dressing room and decide how they bowl.

Time up for them too imo.

As for Silverwood, he wants peddling just for his "coaching" of Archer. There isn't another coach or country in world cricket who would more butcher the opportunity to work with the best young fast bowling propsect in the world. f***ing clown, he'd be averaging 15 if the Aussies had him.

Aye it seems he is. I’m no expert and I know it’s not like football where you set a team up to be hard to beat. But he’s set England up to be a soft touch. A good captain and coach combo can close gaps and drive standards Hussain and Fletcher 1999 onwards set the ground work for the Vaughan era. These 2 just seem to let it rise and try absolutely nowt else to try and get a result.

Hussain hated losing and would do unpopular things like bowl down the leg side to tendulkar to make it a game. We are shit and seemingly soft as shit too

We are rock bottom, but whilst it is easy to think of a few Fletcher's who would jump at the chance to coach England, I can't for the f***ing life of me work out who could be a Hussain figure we need.

Who is the Eoin Morgan type who can come in and ruthlessly execute a strategy, as we did in double-quick time when we bottomed out in white ball cricket?

Stokes? Doesn't the lad do enough already? No idea. Burns is a good captain by all accounts, but his batting fails to convince.

We are in big trouble.

I quite liked Bayliss and looking back I think it shows he didnt do a bad job with the test team

He kind of realised there was a lack of quality players about, so put his emphasis on the middle and lower order which did work.

Silverwood had a brief spell where Sibley and co did really well, South Africa was a great win, and we were good at home that next summer, but since the India its been appalling in terms of selection.

I blame the T2O on Morgan though, he is completely obsessed with stats and pre-decided matchups, thats on him.

Aye some of the decisions they are getting wrong are so basic its beyond belief. I listened to the Sky podcast today, they talked the usual shite about pitches, when we play our cricket etc, but Rob Key did highlight Silverwood a few times, didnt call for him to go, but I reckon he will be in private.

We need someone with pedigree, who knows test cricket and is ruthless. Someone from the outside, I dont want someone from county cricket.

I'd split up the roles, simply because you wont attract the very best candidates for a full time role doing every single game.

My absolute dream choice would be Ricky Pointing, I dont think I've ever heard someone talk as well about cricket as him. I know coaching is different to that but he'd be my dream choice. Someone of that ilk

I would consider playing Morgan in the test side as captain if he wants the job, which he possibly won’t.

Even if he scores no runs he can’t be any worse than the shit we are seeing now.
