We need a competent CB.
Ramsay in Midfield and keep Wilson fit.
That would be enough to keep us up I reckon.
The bottom of the table are awful. Norwich, Watford and 1 from 3 or 4. Probably whichever teams does the worst business in January.

Cards on the table, I'm biased and would like Newcastle to be relegated but I'm always happy to debate things with decent Mags

I believe you'll go down and think you're in a worse position than when Benitez relegated you. The fixtures are harder, the position worse and the manager inferior.

Looking at the two squads I'd say, in all honesty, Benitez took a better side down. By the time Newcastle see the window open they could quite easily be rock bottom and it may to too late.

Only players willing to risk relegation will sign and they're the wrong ones.

Better than Norwich & Watford is hardly overrating!!!

My point still applies. Would still be our nest player!
Watford have a far better manager. 3 more points, a better goal difference and don’t have to play Liverpool or City twice each. Just to put a bit of realism out there.

They’ve got Liverpool, city and Everton to play to complete their first ‘half’ of the season (playing each side once). I think best case for them is a 3 point return so that would give them 13 points from 50% of the games.

Other than their win vs Man Utd, Watford have been dross.

Burnley are always involved in close games. They’ve only lost by more than one goal against city away (2-0), Liverpool away (2-0) and Everton away (3-1). But only one win which was v Brentford at home.

Norwich have looked better recently but I still think they’ll go down.

These sides are averaging under a point a game so if the mags do lose their next 4 games they’ll probably be bottom and about 6 points from safety.

Then it depends if they can bring the right players in in January to be able to get 6 points more than the 3 above mentioned teams.

Someone else out of Southampton, Leeds, maybe Brentford could drop into it but none of them stand out as being obvious candidates at the moment.

I think we're down already. Next three games we might nick a point (home v Man Utd) We need a minimum of 25 points to have any chance of staying up. Will be us, Norwich and I hope Leeds that go down.

Newcastle have a tough remaining 2021- I don’t expect them to get any more points.

A massive challenge now awaits them to avoid relegation.

Top players will not sign for Newcastle In January.

I cannot imagine the new regime did not contemplate a relegation but given the aims for the takeover, a season in the Championship will not be welcomed.

Oh well!

An honest Mag, who'd a thunk it? TBF, he's spot on.
There was one on Talksport last night (with a strong Durham accent) who was saying Bruce was no different to Benitez and Howe seemed better than both. I thought it was one of ours on a wind-up but he sounded genuinely distraught at the result yesterday

I take your points and they are fair. Perhaps I am blinkered by bias also!!!
I think what gives me hope above all is that we are not already looking at 7-10 points adrift.
Norwich are poorer than us. Watford, ok time will tell but we have seen a younger, fitter Sissoko not turn up for a relegation battle for instance.
I believe we have more to spend that our competitors at the bottom. Remember we do not need stars. Just player capable of getting 4 points more than Watford and Burnley.
Our fixtures are tough. So are everyone else’s.
Yes we have, on paper, played the easier games thus far. Time will tell. I think we will be fine…. just.

Feckin hell man, wudnt like to be in the trenches with you :lol:

Fwiw, I would be pleased to see you go down ( doesn't matter anywhere near as much now I'm 60), and see the more unpleasant element of your support, crying in their beer but, take it from me, you will not go down

Despite a terrible first 15 games, you have incredibly not been cut adrift - unbelievable really.

Norwich are goners.

Burnley will go this season esp with Cornet out.

And the third one will be from youse, Soton, Watford, Leeds and maybe even Everton who are only 8 points ahead.

Once 2021 is out of the way, and even if you only have 12/13/14 points by the start of 2022, imho, you will pick up enough points at home to get to the 35/36 required.

The January window is a tough one, but Allardyce cracked it with us in 2016, so it's not impossible.

I don't think for one minute that the likes of Lingard will sign when they have better placed options, but Howe will get 2/3 in where it matters, and add that to the likes of Wilson and ASM, and you have every chance of finishing above Soton and Watford.
