India v NZ test series

Sky are showing Jimmys 7-43 at Trent Bridge Vs NZ. Jimmy was swinging the ball all over that day and he got the first 6 wickets. I was gutted when Sidebottom got Vettori out as it ruined Jimmy's chance of all 10. Probably the only time England have taken a wicket and I haven't cheered

Remember when Onions took 9 for Durham and the other wicket was run out? I'd have been fuming

My club side had an overseas pro called Chris Matthews who was an Aussie test player quick bowler. He had taken the first 9 and then I dropped one off the other bowler. He went on to get his 10th. I got a few pints bought.

Yes - I read Adam Gilchrists book recently and he talks about Matthews saying he was the quickest bowler in Australia at the time and he had made his debut against him and the like of Bruce Reid. He explained he was certain Matthews would be a regular for Australia for years but ended up letting nerves get the best of his and he never progressed. When we has at Whickham he was very quick but erratic. When i saw him play for other clubs later on he seemed to bowl with much more control and less pace and was a better bowler for it in our conditions. An absolutely fantastic bloke tho.

Was mates with Cloughy when he was at The Glebe .1986 Matthews was at Shildon in the Durham County League.I never wore a helmet but thought I'd better based on CM's reputation.Solely for vision reasons I took it off after a couple of balls . Cloughy said afterwards it would've riled CM.I got literally peppered all my body albeit scoring 20 between slips and point.A few months later he played in the Ashes .Think he played at Sacriston in early nineties 🤔

Yes you’ve got that spot on. He found it difficult to bowl full at the time and there was a lot of runs scored off him over the slips. Well done for sticking at it. Kevin Dixon who played for Coxhoe I think? did similar to you with the helmet and gutsed it out whilst getting peppered. Fair play to both of you unless you are Kevin Dixon
