The bottom line is Newcastle is the main city in the North east. It’s just a fact.
Transport links, media, sport, culture, development are all high profile and focussed around Newcastle.
It’s obvious a new major development would stay in Newcastle.
Should it though?
With big populated areas all around it.. plenty room to spread out
I think he’s on a wind up mate the utopia that is Newcastle should get everything according to him and his ilk
ShudderOh yeah sorry. I strayed from the narrative.
PS. Dont mention Kenton, Fawdon, Byker etc. Shhhhhh
No, as I commented, the Civil Service is being turfed out to make way for a housing estate. It was my understanding that HMRC were moving out of Benton Park View and the DWP were replacing them.
Who is 'they' who sold the land to fund refurbishment? No, as I commented, the Civil Service is being turfed out to make way for a housing estate.
As said, they sold the land to fund refurbishment, leased it back and now new land owner has decided housing is a bigger earner.
We've been categorically told that.
Civil Service.Who is 'they' who sold the land to fund refurbishment?
I didn't think the CS ever owned Benton Park View?Civil Service.
AMEC group hold the land ownership.
The government owned all government buildings. It flogged them off at the beginning of the century to make a few quid and then rent them back on long-ish term deals at relatively cheap rates. Those deals are starting to end now and market rates are kicking in. Hence why they’re all moving to shiny new offices on long-ish term deals at relatively cheap etc etc etc.I didn't think the CS ever owned Benton Park View?
I was thinking more recently, really, but I take your point. The government owned all government buildings. It flogged them off at the beginning of the century to make a few quid and then rent them back on long-ish term deals at relatively cheap rates. Those deals are starting to end now and market rates are kicking in. Hence why they’re all moving to shiny new offices on long-ish term deals at relatively cheap etc etc etc.
Do you disapprove?im surprised the union havent stepped in and insisted all staff should be WFH forever more
They had it when the old building was still there.I didn't think the CS ever owned Benton Park View?
It's actually more conducive to productivity to work in the office for me at least. But it's a bugger of a commute.im surprised the union havent stepped in and insisted all staff should be WFH forever more
Yeah, but that must be over 25 years ago now? Your post seemed to imply that the CS had just sold the land recently. They had it when the old building was still there.
See West Winger's comments.

Apologies for that.Yeah, but that must be over 25 years ago now? Your post seemed to imply that the CS had just sold the land recently.
Unfortunately this is the truth. The bottom line is Newcastle is the main city in the North east. It’s just a fact.

Remember that many of the 9000 have been forced to Longbenton. Not all of them will have started their careers there that's for sure.If we want to improve Sunderland, we need to rethink the city centre. Retail is a fraction of what it once was and will only get smaller. We need to stop trying to bring back the past. Moving the college was a good step, but we missed a massive opportunity when they built the new Uni next to the river. We should try to move the people who will always be there into the city. Council/Goverment workers and students. That gives a base for footfall which will support hospitality and then build up from there.
However, we're never going to get 9k workers who are based in Longbenton to make a move to a different city.
And what have the Romans given us?Unfortunately this is the truth.
Probably been the case since the Romans.
I find this absolute horse shitThe bottom line is Newcastle is the main city in the North east. It’s just a fact.
