Trying to rewrite our history now.
In reality, Stokoe got Sunderland promoted following the cup win, took a few years though as he lost a few key players to Man City. Sunderland struggled following promotion and Stokoe resigned after a few months in the top flight which came out of the blue. Most people, myself included were quite surprised as there was very little in the way of unrest towards him.
Likewise when he returned in an attempt to save us from McMenemyās disastrous reign, he was welcomed by all and everyone got behind him and the team. Pretty sure he said at the time he was appointed that it was only a temporary measure till the end of the season as he had health issues. I canāt remember anyone having a bad word to say about the man on either occasion, but as you werenāt there youāll probably know better than anyone.
