It's true about Robson having abuse and yes probably spat at sjp 1982 not long after Keegan signed and the then England manager dropped Keegan and never told him face to face

I will also admit most people thought he should step down when and I would say it again he needed to get put the game

I also remember Sunderland fans doing the same to Bob Stokoe a few years after the 73 cup win. Yet he has a statue. So I am not brandishing all Sunderland fans the same but it happened. Poor Bob got it again when he took the rap after Lawrie Mac buggered off too. Just saying bricks in glass houses like

I donā€™t know about many Bob Stoke spotting incident as I was too young but I donā€™t remember any issues with him after the 87 relegation but then this wouldnā€™t be the first time a mag has rewrote history.

Stop talking shite about Stokoe. Never happened.
Bobby Robson actually commented that when he used to attend matches at both our clubs after he became quite ill that he was treated better at Sunderland than at Newcastle. Robson is primarily an icon of Ipswich Town, a club that he built into a trophy winning side who played fantastic football under his guidance.

On Tyneside he suffered some poor treatment and Freddie Shepherd stated that when he sacked him ā€œit was like shooting Bambiā€ which duplicated his previous disdain for people on Tyneside which included him and Douglas Hall calling local women ā€˜dogsā€™ (their wives must have felt good) and sniggering at the prices your fans paid for cheaply made strips.

Trying to rewrite our history now.

In reality, Stokoe got Sunderland promoted following the cup win, took a few years though as he lost a few key players to Man City. Sunderland struggled following promotion and Stokoe resigned after a few months in the top flight which came out of the blue. Most people, myself included were quite surprised as there was very little in the way of unrest towards him.

Likewise when he returned in an attempt to save us from McMenemyā€™s disastrous reign, he was welcomed by all and everyone got behind him and the team. Pretty sure he said at the time he was appointed that it was only a temporary measure till the end of the season as he had health issues. I canā€™t remember anyone having a bad word to say about the man on either occasion, but as you werenā€™t there youā€™ll probably know better than anyone.
