Under Moyes, we had 8 points from 12 games. Just saying

What history tells us

Since the league was cut to 20 teams in 1995/96, the average points required to avoid the drop has been much lower than 40.

Over the past 22 seasons, the 18th-placed team, the highest to go down, have averaged 35.8 points.

So, 36 points would have been enough to stay up on at least 10 occasions.

Teams with 37 points would have retained their Premier League status in 15 of the past 22 seasons.

So they need to average

Even if they sign several quality players in January, they’ve still got to gel together and get understandings going. Ipswich, albeit at our level, are an example of this. They’ve got quality but haven’t quite clicked yet.

Defensively, Newcastle are all over the place. I can’t see them getting anything at Arsenal next week, which would leave them on 6 points from 13 games. Big ask for them to get another 30 points from 25 games (36 points is usually enough for safety).

Home games against Norwich and Burnley to come in the next few weeks, failure to win at least one of those, and they are in serious trouble. Brentford appeared to be a banker home win today, especially with the new manager effect, but they still couldn’t win that (even if Howe wasnt there because of illness).

January might come too late, we shall see.

Would love it if they went down though, not just because they are the Mags, but the way they went on after the takeover was ridiculous.
By January they maybe too far gone
The spectre of an inter Milan deal hasn't vanished to hence could that affect player investment

8 wins and 7 draws will get them 37 points. That is 15 positive results from 26 games.

8 wins is a win rate of 30.77%. EH's best season was 34.21%, so 9 wins (and 4 draws) which would also do it. Essentially EH has to perform like his best season for them to stay up.

I think they will break their duck in game #14 v Norwich. Night game at SJP and the atmosphere should be incredible. If they cannot get a win then, they are doomed. Only glimmer of hope is Palace in 2017-18 with this start but ended with 44 points.

Excellent stats. Love this kind of thing. Hoping Arsenal put 5 past them next weekend which will make it all the harder

Comparison with the Alladyce escape, though he came in after 8 games. In 2008/09 and 2015/16 the gap between mags and 17th was zero. Now it is 5, and could be 8 if Leeds win.

The absolute height of hypocrisy. This major Tory Donor visiting a Newcastle food bank to score brownie points with the Murderers United fans when his party caused them to have to exist. After his f***ing Glorious leader the Eton Mess caved to Bin Salman to push through the deal for the Sportswashing exercise and the Scum fans lap it up. Disgusting

I'm from a different era and don't really understand this You Tube phenomenon but seeing a very young lad thanking people for donations of £10, £50 here and there when advertising himself the world over doesn't sit well with me #groomersparadise
He’s the mag Captain Fishpaste.

Everything he does involves winding people up so they’ll share his content.

It’s a sound strategy, the only problem is he’s naturally annoying and can’t turn it off.

For comparison in Derby's 2007-08 season, considered by many as the worst ever, at this stage they had 6 points having won 1 game and had conceded fewer goals than the mags. SB knew that defence was not Prem league quality which is why he had so many people behind the ball.
