Durham CCC

After seeing the Durham villages thread on the pure football thread it made me wonder how you guys feel about Newcastle people supporting Durham? I assumed it was the North East’s club but perhaps there is more to it?

My team has the reverse situation. Even though Gloucestershire play home games in Bristol, there are some Bristolians who support Somerset which really annoys me.

Sadly Newcastle fans are more likely to bring football in to it which is cringey.

Everytime Durham post them singing Blaydon races you can guarantee a load of "toon toon" replies on twitter

I'm fine with it personally.

Remember an amusing conversation at the ashes here when I got chatting randomly to a mag and a boro fan and we all agreed we hated Leeds the most

Isn't Bristol in Somerset though?

It’s not in either County since 1100-hundred something when it was declared a free city or something like that. Always been on the border of the two, hence Gloucestershire playing home games there since the 1800s.

Bristol Rovers and Bristol City play in the Gloucestershire FA county cup…

Never knew that, thanks.

As such I guess it's down to the locals who they identify with. I think of Bristol as West country, Don't really think of Gloucester as such. Regardless of where home matches are played. If there was a Tyne/Wear county side formed and played on my doorstep I'd still go watch Durham instead

The Shire is West Country. The babbers weaned on apples.

Only the part north of the Avon was in Gloucestershire, and only until 1373 when the County of Bristol was created. South of the Avon was Somerset till 1373.

With regards mags supporting Durham, we tolerate it.

Thanks for the factual clarification.

Don’t let it be forgot that County Durham is the lifeblood of SAFC. Sunderland was originally within the county border as was Gateshead.

I raise an eyebrow when a mag like graham onions (who isnt even from Newcastle) starts chipring up about going to the SoL for a presentstion when we won the CC etc. Or when you get loathsome Durham & Chester mags rocking up to the Riverside in their gravy stained 2017 away kits

Im sure he’s just having a bit daft crack TBF.

I think the ‘for the North’ thing is right and we’re the team of Northumberland and Scotland too.

Domt mind when we play in Gosforth for that reason.
Agree. It not like the games are a sell out either, Championship I mean, so the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.
