Racism at Yorkshire CCC

I haven’t seen one poster suggest that we ignore racism on the back of these new allegations. What gets people’s back up however , is that racism only seems to go one way . We have a man here stating his life is in ruins because of racism yet within a day we find out that he had also made racist comments . Do we really think that these Facebook messages will have been the only racist comments that Rafiq had made in his life ? You’d have to be pretty naive to think this .
We also have the lad pictured swigging from bottles of alcohol , allegations of excess gambling and pictures of him with t shirts saying P@ki Power , all of which undermine his credibility. If you are going to throw a racism grenade that will ruin the reputation of many people , you better make sure that you are beyond reproach .
I agree in part with this, and I also agree it’s curious that many havent taken an interest in the case until the point where Rafiq has besmirched his character. Which speaks volumes

Its not him in the pictures with the shirts on.

What is the relevance of his drinking? I hope you're not trying to justify him being force fed wine at 15 because as an adult he was out drinking?
I accept that picture was not him . I saw it last night on Twitter under his name and wrongly thought this was him .

I don’t think a couple of racist tweets from Oli Robinson or Rafiq a decade ago proves that the

Do you think so? I have been in here almost since this message board began and I haven’t always covered myself in glory particularly 15 years ago with unpleasant comments towards others. Most people on this thread will have a less than perfect past. I would like to think I have matured and learned as I have got older. Similarly are Rafiq, Oli Robinson abhorrent people now for a couple of racist messages they sent a decade ago as teenagers? It all depends on whether they have learned and matured in my opinion.
I do think so. All the people involved may have grown up and matured since the time in which this behaviour occurred but it still happened and it should quite rightly be called out no matter who the perpetrator was and when it happened.
But as I stated the issues should not be conflated and dealt with in isolation. YCCC and the sustained racism is one aspect which should be dealt with accordingly. Rafiq and his anti-sematic/racist comments should also be dealt with accordingly in isolation.

If people feel the need to use derogatory language using a personal characteristic (be it race, sexuality, gender etc) as a weapon then that person isn't a very nice character

Why? Why should you be beyond reproach? the things still happened

why is it a problem to ruin the reputations of people when they have actually done things?

why does the hypocrisy matter most to you? Why is that your focus?
It matters because he has damaged the reputations of a lot of people . We have people calling out the likes of Joe Root who seems to have done little wrong other than being employed at the club when this was going on . I just can’t see how people can’t see the hypocrisy of a someone calling out the behaviour of others when at the same time conducting the same behaviour themselves .

Again, why is the hypocrisy the thing you are focused on?

On Root - I think you have massively missed the point. He’s even gone as far as saying how good a bloke he is.

Who else has had their reputation destroyed? Who hasn’t deserved it?

You can’t say on one hand that a bloke is a decent person whilst calling him out as a liar in another. That has left a massive question mark over Root’s reputation.

When Dominic Cummins drove to Durham during covid I imagine , knowing your love for Conservatives , that you were all over it . What Cummins did in the scheme of things wasn’t that bad but because he was the one making the rules he should have been beyond reproach and his hypocrisy completely fucked up the Government’s message .

By Rafiq being outed as a racist , his hypocrisy has massively undermined his own cause .

Anyway, to get this thread a little more on track

You asked why hypocrisy matters . My example shows you why a hypocrite can ruin the message .
Firstly let’s establish if he is a hypocrite. MV according to 3 seperte people made a racist comment to Rafiq and others. It was corroborated by many. I believe he said it and don’t believe he can remember saying it. Rafiq made two racist comments 10 years ago when he was 19. If he remembers sending those tweets hypocrisy is something that he can be accused of if he can’t then he can hardly be called a hypocrite.
For the sake of argument he can remember and is a hypocrite. Why is that a bigger deal to you than Rafiq facing sustained and systematic racism day after day from white players, white administrators, white management and white commentators? Why prior to 5pm yesterday was this topic not an issue to you? Why is it now? You need a long, hard look in the mirror.

Yeah, but Barnard Castle

People really need to get over stuff. The way racism is being treated as the greatest sin known to man is silly. Of course it should not be endorsed in any way, but the sheer puritanism surrounding the issue is just nonsense.

The fact one of the guys making accusations is guilty of the same thing shows how silly it all is. Apologise and move on. Forgive and forget, etc. Not much chance of that mind, or of the whole double standards surrounding the issue ever being addressed.
It is silly. Right up to the point where it affects how you and your family are treated by people, how you are treated at school and at work, and how it affects your future. As it has affected Rafiq, and other Asian cricketers. And countless other victims of racism and institutional racism, such as those affected by the Windrush scandal.

We have a problem with racism in this country. It is a deep one. It was conditioned into older generations (of which I am one) and goes right back to our attitudes as a former colonial power.

Your opinion is meaningless mate because you've done things in the past you shouldn't have, so nobody should listen to you on anything, you're not beyond reproach and unless you are, you have no buisness opining on moral issues

I'm sure you'll agree

Of course it can ruin the message.

My question is why you seemingly only care about the hypocrisy?
I don’t . I despise bullying and if that is connected to racism , then that only aggravates the matter . The fact that once pointed out , YCC club seem to have done little about it is deplorable and those responsible will obviously have to pay for their actions .
i also hate hypocrisy and I see a lot of that on this message board .

Your posts on this thread say the exact opposite

I would expect my opinion to carry less weight if I was conducting similar behaviour to those I was complaining about .
