Racism at Yorkshire CCC

As a kid I loved Shahzad as well. He was fast, nasty, exciting, passionate. Everything most of the Yorkshire side at the time weren't. Was absolutely gutted when he fell out with Yorkshire (dread to think why) and joined Lancs
I mean we had Tendulkar play for us, there was a time when every young Indian cricketer would have wanted to come test themselves over here like he did and follow in his foot steps. Our overseas players should of been easy to recruit every year forever.

With this culture and the loss in finances will we ever see a decent overseas player again

My thoughts are that you're giving credence to a racist assumption.

I'm sure there are Asians who pay in a timely fashion and Asians who don't, just like any ethnicity of people. There's no reason to group them all together that is acceptable.

And re the text, if you say racist stuff in any circumstance, private, public, whatever, you're saying racist stuff, so don't be surprised if you have to deal with the consequences if its outed.

If you want to avoid being "cancelled" for saying racist stuff, don't ever say racist stuff, and it won't be a problem. It's really very simple.

If someone is the sort of person who values being able to tell racist jokes etc in private, then it's pretty obvious to most right thinking people what that's about.
Fair comments. Bumble has made a generalisation as to Asian Players not paying subs. One that obviously won’t go down well in wider society.

The comment as to Asian players not integrating much as they don’t go in the bar is conjecture. Maybe they dont integrate well for that reason and that’s a slight on them, but one on “the game”.

f***ing hell, that full witness statement. It's levels of racism I honestly haven't heard from anyone other than thick as pigshit teenagers, who hopefully have chance to grow out of it.
And it was so clearly seen as ordinary there.

One little detail I picked out on the cricketing side of things. According to Rafiq, Adil Rashid's curious in-out retired/unretired act with England in red ball cricket depended on whether they were making it compulsory to play for your county. He hated his treatment at hands of - Rafiq alleges - Andrew Gale so much, he preferred to retire from England test ambitions than have to stomach being around Yorkshire for four day county cricket. Of course this itself I remember being framed around "he can't be arsed" lazy, borderline-racist tropes in the media.

Best English leg spinner of my lifetime. Held back because of Yorkshire racism. How many kids have slipped the net, just absolutely shameful.

On Gale specifically, this all brings to light why disgraceful Yorkshire stood by him when he racially abused Ashwell Prince and even the ECB suspended him. Why? Because they were racist.
I'm only a part time (England tbh) cricket fan so don't really know how these things work but if Rashid hated it at Yorkshire so much could he not ask for a transfer like footballers do? Obviously he shouldn't have had to but sure that would have been better than retiring.

Going to take me a while to plow through this, but let's just remember Yorkshire CCC's initial reaction and attempts to brush off this report. Just think about the complete lack of contrition and denial, it's quite staggering.

If an international class player like Rashid requested a transfer from their club it would be an earthquake in the game. It just isn't done.

Only 18 counties of which plenty are skint.

Rashid being an England player not on a central contract means wages maybe a lot for most teams to afford.

Can't say I know his personal situation I.e kids etc. So perhaps happy staying in his home for family reasons.

Makes sense his moving to a white ball only deal if stuff like this was going on at Yorkshire.

He's been absolutely pivotal in England white ball success. Sad we never got the best of him with a red ball.

Call me surprised the two aren't linked.

I really hope others in this dressing room speak out. They surely can't stay silent if cricket in England is to progress from this.

Sounds like Alex Lees was no fan of Bresnan. Be interested to hear his thoughts.

Can parliament summon people to give testimonies? Or, alternatively, could this go to court? Because we're at a deadlock at this stage. His word vs Rafiq's.

Bresnan's Wiki page has been altered. Not sure if any other player has got the same treatment.

I'm not sure their will be much more parliamentary involvement now.

Guess all depends on how the ECB handle the fallout.

It only seems to have gone to parliament due to certain journalists chasing the stort. With the right members of parliament that clearly like cricket tweeting their disdain at the stories from the press.

Being in a cricket changing room can be more tough than any other sport. You spend more time with team mates and in my opinion there seems be be an open book for so called ‘banter’. Does bullying translate to comments about sexual orientation? Players with physical disformaties? Players with speech impediments? People with mental health challenges? Some players do dominate and basically take the piss out of others. This so called ‘banter’ can leave its mark on the recipient.

Not a cricket fan at all ....but this is shocking and staggering ....stuff like elephant washers and other racist terms from key England internationals. Cricket is known as the gentleman's game ,god knows how this news has gone down in cricket strangleholds such as India and Pakistan

And the players apart from Hoggard as far as I can see not taking full responsibility for their actions . Grow some balls ,apologise and admit what you said .By the way yorkshires new chairman lord Patel comes out of this sorry charade with a lot of credit as do Adil Rashid and rafiq himself .They have stood up to be counted

Cricket in the gutter...
