Racism at Yorkshire CCC

Julian Knight has apparently been working with Rafiq right from the very start by the way, pushing the ECB/ Yorkshire, and is the reason this is all here. Exactly what an MP should do.
Really damning stuff. Unfortunately the names mentioned so far are not too much of a surprise as being shithouses. I have only been half listening to some of it as been working at the same time but did I hear bumble's name mentioned? Not sure if it was the same thing but around the time they mentioned getting subs from Asian players as getting blood from a stone.
Yeah exactly what he was brought up about. He wasn't blaming him particularly (he hasn't especially blamed anyone to be fair) but used it as an example about how the media was against him and there seemed to be "closet racists in the media".

The Matthew Hoggard comment is so powerful. All he wanted was an apology ffs.

Exactly the same with a few people on this board when they talk about cancel culture or how "we've all made comments etc." Nobody is hunting you down about comments, they're just saying these things you think are ok or funny arent. Why can't we all be adults, own up to our mistakes - do some reflection, do some reading or listen to what various people have said - and realise why those comments aren't acceptable and hurt others, and try to grow. Then we can all move on.

The PCA stuff is disgraceful. If a union can't stand by the people its supposed to represent, it should be disbanded - it has no purpose.
The same body in horse racing is facing the very same issue. A young female jockey has complained of systemtic bullying by her male counterparts. There has been a desperate attempt from within racing to keep it hushed and swept under the carpet.
She has been ostracised for speaking out and even her own union (PJA) has called on her case to be thrown out. Staggering stuff.

It was but then I feel it was a bit harsh to name Hoggard in that context, assuming there are others who didn't get in touch and haven't been named after being forgiven.

This all sounds like Yorkshire is still operating in the 70s, I'm 41 and I've never been in any sports team or workplace where any of this would have been deemed acceptable behaviour. I'm staggered an institution in this day and age is still seemingly trying to defend this type of behaviour.

The allegation on Bumble is that behind the scenes he was trying to smear Rafiq, I think, even as Sky were touting their anti-racist credentials. Similar to what we've seen from some quarters on this thread. Might have leaned into a racist trope that the clubhouses are the heart and soul of country cricket and you can't expect anything from muslim players, because they don't drink. Or something like that. Didn't quite catch it.
Amazed everyone is so amazed at what has been said if Iam honest. Cricket in this country from local clubs to the professional game is segregated to an extent.
Backwards compared to football and I think that's class-based. The middle class-run sports get a free pass on issues like racism, which is a working class issue. Apparently.

Well: bollocks.

The point Rafiq is trying to make is that it's not just Yorkshire or a few individuals within the game but the whole structure of our domestic game is wrong.

Appalling.

Sadly, this isn’t just a ‘Yorkshire thing’ and isn’t just a ‘cricket thing’. It’s deep rooted, it’s gone on for years, will no doubt still be going on now, and it’s dreadful to see.

He was praising Hoggard (as was I)?

What’s the reference to “Kevin” and why is it derogatory to black people? It’s not something I’ve seen or heard of before.
I dunno if there is one. I take it that whatever the reason for the term, it was used to differentiate players of colour or black players from white, and to suggest they're all the same

I imagine the culture in Australian cricket is exactly the same as it is here if not potentially worse with the indigenous population as well. Thank god we're starting to hear about it, so that we can start the process of recovery. Australia will have to go through the same process eventually.
My wife got the most consistent old school racism of anywhere in the world she's been in Australia. Worse then here, USA, South Africa even. They're shameless about it over there.
