Putting a roof on the Stadium of Light

what a ridiculous suggestion. how many more fans would a roof covered stadium attract. i’d be surprised if anyone chooses not to go match because there isn’t a roof on when the vast majority of the seats are covered anyway.

It can be done as a retrofit, but is very rarely used for matches as I think FIFA or UEFA regulations says the matches must be played outdoors.

Parken in Copenhagen has a retrofit roof, but uses it for concerts, boxing matches etc. - keeping it closed for longer periods kills the grass roots

Hadn't realised this. I was there for Copenhagen vs Celtic.

Would have been a class experience with the roof on.

Women do

Retractable roofs are mostly Seen as being financially unviable by the vast majority of stadium owners and dead money that will never be recuperated even in the long term, a football stadium would easily cost £150m/200m just for the roof alone and the running costs of using them and maintaining them are also extremely high.

Spurs looked into the option of a retractable roof when designing their new stadium but soon dismissed the idea.

Imagine waiter service and maybe an a la carte menu for you at your seat, now that would attract more to games.

Just give those continental players that you talk of thermals to match the gloves they already put on.

As it would only be used for the sake of keeping the fans dry when raining, so it is for the supporters benefit…. No chance of them doing that!

A squadron of drones could bring a microlight cover over the stadium, and still let the wind in below - AND allow seagulls easy ingress and egress

A tarpaulin would only cost a couple of grand.
When it pissed down it would sag with all the water and perhaps be that low hanging it makes us play the ball along the floor……

fans higher up than the first few rows would be in trouble but the football would be better
