Listening to the Guardian's football weekly podcast they reckon Ashley amended Bruce's contract to bequest this gargantuan payoff when he knew the Saudi takeover was immmenient, sort of a 'fuck you' to them.

I almost admire the sheer bloody-minded petulance of this move should it in fact be true.

Without any sense of irony I saw "we are now free from tyranny" posted on social media describing the end of Ashley's reign....you could not make that shit up man!
