NUFC/Sportwashing

Who knows, I just know that there’s 19 other clubs that will currently be looking for assurances that the PL isn’t going to become a sportswashing freak show. Re Man City, Saudi are a different league to UAE when it comes to global perceptions on human rights. I can understand why many think they’re now just going to sweep everyone else aside, won’t happen though IMO.

I think the fish is right - the Man City purchase means that the horse has long bolted, its way too late to play the 'moral' card now.

So I think it'll be more underhand from the other teams.
Planting stories, getting 'on side' journalists to talk about adhering to FFP, getting sponsors to make representations about tightening FFP.

f***ing hell haway man. As if this has been going on and you haven't bothered to search any of it!
There you go. It's not definite (very hard to be definite since the authorities can't really go to Saudi and arrest the bloke), but the CIA believe he ordered the murder. As someone with complete control in the Saudi state its also pretty reasonable to suggest that nothing major gets authorised without his say so. So aye, if Yemeni school kids are bombed, it's highly likely that went past his desk.

Again, I'm not saying you should walk away from your club. Keep going, enjoy potentially being able to compete. But don't throw all your morals away at the same time, don't allow yourself to be sportswashed and become defensive of an horrific regime. Newcastle is a decent place full of decent people, support the team not the regime, you're good at that! But if people will continue to turn up whilst protesting about Ashley, then turn up without a word of dissent when this bloke turns up, then it becomes obvious that all your fans care about is the hope you'll become successful (which you might not). It's not a good look
I am supporting the team and not the regime. I've been saying it all along.

I agree with you mate, but we need to be mindful, that while we call out the Prem League for its moneygrabbing and lack of morals, getting back amongst the elite is what we all want and are striving for.
We bemoan all of the ills of the top flight, criticising owners and clubs lack of ethics, while all the time being desperate to be part of their clique again.
Its a real contradiction, and a mine field that we as a club are going to have to negotiate very carefully.
This is a game changer for me. Whilst we’ve known all along the PLs mission is to make as much money as possible with little or no regard for anything else, it’s the first time as far as I’m aware that they’ve allowed a nation state with such a record to own one of their members. If / when we get back there, I’d have to seriously consider whether I stopped going or not.
Meantime the sickening hypocrisy and moral bankruptcy shown by sections of the media, pundits, and fans has been a real eye opener.

Gary Neville will surely have something controversial to say about it, after everything he’s said recently about the government.

Or will sky shut him up on Sunday, doesn’t fit their agenda.
It’s one way of finding out if he’s got a pair of bollocks.

Hasn't that already happened though? The UAE bought Man City as a Sportswashing exercise and it appears to have worked.

Also, re the brand, the Saudis already have links with Man Utd, Spurs, West Ham were keen on a Saudi takeover.

Personally think it's fanciful to think the other Premier League teams are objecting to this takeover on moral grounds. They're protecting their own interests, as is their right.
Karen Brady? Where David Sullivan said he’d only sell to the king of Saudi Arabia ffs?

should you maybe have looked into it before commenting? Now you know they are directly involved / responsible, does it change your views?
Commenting on what? Newcastle United being my club?
My views on anyone committing atrocities is a bad view.
My views on Newcastle UNited from a fan and supporters mindset stays the same.

Rodgers has done a good job but his style of play has changed to a pure counter attacking one. Which is why they can be lethal away but boring at home.
Sad fact is anyone would be an improvement on Bruce mind. Futile to deny that

Laura Woods is on a one-woman mission to get Bruce the sack this morning on Talksport. Had Shay Given on earlier and she asked him who he'd have in as their new manager. Told her he doesn't like talking about new managers, when they already have one in place. Proper blew her out. IIRC, her da's a mag. He's probably put her up to it.

(Oh and, wad).
She's a giggling idiot

Wad like

HITC sevens with an excellent to the point video on this, and dismantles many of the paper thin defences we've repeatedly heard.

As an aside, the main HITC sport channel is run by a shouty shouty squeaky Irish Newcastle fan making meme videos and using it as a personal Newcastle blog. It's mental really, the side channel HITC Sevens is so much more professional in presentation

It isn't if you aren't owned by one of the most hideous regimes in the world.....the EFL are hardly any better in many ways....look what they let happen to Bury as one recent example.
Anyway it's not a problem for at least a couple of years.....
