Exactly this. Big fan of his, but this is so hypocritical. Really disappointing to be honest.

How can anyone make excuses, or even just ignore the lack of human rights and sheer brutality of the new owners?

Their MP saying they’ve turned a corner too by buying Newcastle. Yeah, that makes sense. All these years of anti gay, anti women, anti everything… it’s all good now, they’ve bought the toon.

What an amazing example they’re setting for all the kids (and adults) in the area.

Shameful. Absolutely shameful.
We live in a country of selfish arseholes that panic buy food and fuel when there’s no need. They don’t give a fuck kids are being bombed in Yemen or you can be whipped, castrated and tortured for being gay. I’m sure a lot of mag fans are gay or have gay relatives or children. They no doubt changed their Facebook profile pictures on the 11th of September for a few likes but at the end of the day they’re more than happy to not give a fuck because they have a real chance at some trophies. They can win them for me. They’ll all be bought and I’ll never get tired of telling them that. Man City fans are already bored because there’s no magic in just expecting it.

This sums up how I feel. I’m under no illusions that if this was us I’d try and justify it or separate state from football. However the likes of sam fender and chi who are constantly on their soapbox or the journalists and fans who slated Ashley for zero hour contracts can fuck right off celebrating this. Utter hypocrites.

Their hypocrisy is astounding mind. More and more crawling out for their moment in the media having for years cried about Ashley on how they perceive he treats people, yet here we are October 2021 and they are thrilled to have a Saudi group with appalling human rights records taking over their club as if they are angels and ill treatment suddenly no longer matters. It will make conversations easier on here and in public with Newcastle fans in the future as quite simply they have no morals or regards relating to human rights, LGBT, etc. I'd be appalled if Durham CCC/Sunderland/Hartlepool agreed to similar such investment.

This whole thread is hypocrite central tbf. The number of people who would be going on exactly the same if shoe was on other foot that have suddenly become human rights activists for the Middle East

aye right
I don't think many would turn their back on their club, and most would be excited about the future, but I'd like to think a lot of us would still express discomfort about becoming a plaything for a horrific regime which is using our club to sportswash its image. I'd certainly be in that bracket rather than dancing about with a tea towel on my head. Equally you talk about hypocrites, if safc had PIF buying us do you genuinely think all the mags would be saying its okay like they are now? They'd be the exact same. It's almost as if most people know it's an awful regime that shouldn't be involved with our game, but a lot will be blinded by the hope of success if it happens to them.

This is true. There is a few who would stop going or couldn’t support it (I stopped going to Sunderland pre covid as I gradually lost interest due to money ruining the game). I’d imagine it would be enough to put me off. A few of our fans stopped going when PDC got the job - the media tortured the club over this. Football is double standards and it’s easier to swallow when you are reaping the benefits correct?

I think a level headed person can enjoy the club progressing whilst also admitting the people backing it are heinous.

Take it up with the PL, the British Government, Mike Ashley. There is literally nothing I can do about the atrocities carried out by the Saudi regime.
I've posted elsewhere my dislike of the premier league and that bumbling arsehole who runs this country (into the ground)

I only hope the US go ahead with their further condemnation of Saudi Arabia and I would not shed a tear for the middle east . Never have.

They've sold their soul and permanent moral superiority is all well and good but it'll still be hard if the fuckers start dropping major coin on players. If they win anything they'll be insufferable. Glad I live in North Tyneside

Fuck off man. You've rammed it down the nation's throats for years about how you perceived Ashley treated people (0 hours contracts for example). None of that suddenly matters anymore all of a sudden.... Only hypocrites are the people cheering this and it's not Sunderland fans

Morning fishy, how goes the cat treat hunt today?

Do one.

State your love of all things Saudi but dont hide behind it by claiming others would.

They are a vile nation of killers . US let them off the hook but that could well change.

Theyre an abomination of a country but then so are Qatar who have let thousands of migrant workers die just to stage their corrupt World Cup.

What about abramvich and his scrupulous dealings in russia, more corruption and murders again albeit on a lesser scale.

How many people on here genuinely cared about what was going on in Saudi Arabia before the takeover was announced, you could count them on one hand no doubt.

faux outrage, pure jealousy

Bless

I support jarra, buzzing coz they’re investing in the reejun

Let’s be honest, £200m isn’t that much of a war chest these days, Grealish at 100m puts everything into perspective, they are deluded and need a reality check, as well as lacking ambition. They will do what they always do and rinse the 200m on useless/mercenary/lazy French and African players then get relegated by the end of the season, then we will beat them twice in the championship. Joke of a club and fan base. Mostly glory supporters.

Imagine being an ordinary law abiding citizen of Saudi Arabia waking up to see crazed Geordies wearing tea towels on their heads and masks of your sovereign leader spraying beer all over your religious flags this morning.

Cool, but I'd guess more Newcastle fans (or ex-players) have been asked questions about Sportswashing and the Saudi regime than government ministers have since this takeover was first mentioned 18 months ago. Just like Man City fans aren't responsible for answering questions about the Emirates, or Chelsea fans about Abramovic. We're not really the people to talk to about this.

Very fair point. If they'd all said "there's nowt we can do" about Ashley then they'd have a bit of a point with this takeover. Instead they've gone from saying how unsuitable he is because of some dodgy, but mainly legal, business practices, to welcoming this lot in who are undoubtedly worse. The only difference is that one was happy plodding around in lower mid table whilst the other lets them get their inflated sense of superiority and self importance back. The mags are the last ones who can accuse anyone of hypocrisy
