It's an investment fund. It's not a show off how great we are gimmick. I genuinely think people are getting a bit ahead of themselves. We will spend, infrastructure will get updated but I HIGHLY doubt we will spend to the levels people are worried about on here. It's not an investment if you are chucking money away.

Well you never really know but ultimately the fund is setup to make money, they invested huge sums in big businesses following the COVID crash I believe.

Obviously they'll have to invest in the club, but it makes you wonder how much they're willing to invest. You already make profit and as far as I'm aware won't have any debt (only to Ashley?), so do they keep things ticking on as is, or invest billions like Man City, but then what's the ultimate goal? It costs a lot of money to stay on top. Look at Barca.

We’ve got some serious lack of backbone from some of supporters when it comes to the great unwashed mind.

Growing up in South Shields in the early to mid 90’s was a nightmare when the mags we’re signing household names.

Didn’t dampen my enthusiasm for SAFC or worry me one bit what they did… we could always be shite but I’ll be happy to my dying day I was brought up Sunlun and not to support them deluded tossers

Its got absolutely nowt to do with backbone. And nor will current SAFC supporters have their enthusiasm for our club dampened regardless of what they do.

It’s merely a point about the future. As you mentioned, the early 90s saw SAFC lose a generation in places like Shields. Where I’m from was similarly affected. If that was to be repeated again whilst we are simultaneously trying to get more of a foothold within Co Durham and border territory and whilst trying to make our club more financially sustainable in the long term then it would very obviously be detrimental to the success of our club. It’s a competitive technological world we live in and that already makes it challenging when trying to get young people into the game. If there’s a big spending club on the doorstep playing at a high level whilst we’re knocking about in the second or third division we become a less attractive proposition. I’d hope our club owners would understand that too.

The other thing is, if it was to be a Saudi play thing, why get Staveley and the Ruebens involved too - they would benefit greatly and for what? What would the Saudi's get from them?

It's going to be a well structured investment - that's all we have asked for anyway. A clean stadium would be an excellent step in the right direction.

I think they will want to make money (investment) but the sport washing element will be achieved through winning (or chasing) winning things and I think that's their dual aims.

Hopefully Chi will start getting some push back from more left wing members of her party now it's no longer just a niche complaint
We should bombard her about her thoughts on the Saudis and a murdered journalist see what she thinks about that

Quite right mate, very happy with the journey we are on. We still get over 30,000 watching us in league one for gods sake. Zero guarantee they will get success under the head hackers, if man Utd haven't been able to buy
I agree mate, I am very happy with the club I support. Being from Whitley Bay I could have bowed to peer pressure and succumbed to Magness to despite my dad, but am very glad I didn’t. Some of the Bin Salman worship online this evening is hard to take, as I’ve always been proud to be from the north east and I think it’s horrendous that the Saudis have any involvement here. I had to delete my Twitter account after criticising F1 for cosying up to them and granting them a GP - got pelters in English and some Arabic responses that might have been pelters. But we can’t do owt about this, let’s keep enjoying Sunderland and hoping we’re on the right path.

It would be massively shit if they did a Man City, let's not kid ourselves.

The Saudis can’t be seen to be behind Citys owners for long.
I think you’ll move grounds or they’ll hoy so much money into developments on the councils patch that they’ll be allowed to shift those houses somewhere else brick by brick AND buy the ground off the council. Mbappe to get in touch with his Geordie roots?

We were miles behind them 93 - 96, and that didn’t finish us off as a viable force against them. We still came back at them and handed them their arse in quite a few derbies.

Aye. We can’t build a new stadium again though can we? And it’s not about being a viable force against them (though we didn’t beat them between 1990 and 99) it’s about being a viable force in general.

We can spin it as we like but the takeover isn’t good news for us. It very likely makes things more challenging than they are.
