They've got no self awareness.
That must be the understatement of the year. This is one of them on another site describing Bruce, he obviously isn’t aware he describing how most people would describe the typical mag :

”He's not, nor ever will be one of us a fan or a Geordie, hes a fat, unkempt, waddling disaster of a human, he makes my skin creep”

In a nutshell, Ben Jacobs got all kinds of abuse but now he says something positive they all love him

Irrespective of what the Mags think, the elephant in the room is that Saudi Arabia is, to all intents and purposes, an absolute monarchy. What this means is that the Sheikh and the state are effectively the same person. It's not a democracy in any sense of the word. It's therefore pretty much impossible to show that PiF (which effectively performs the same role that MSD does for Michael Dell) is in any way independent of the Saudi royal family. It really can't demonstrate that its funds are separate from KSA, as it's indistinguishable from the royal family as individuals. It's all a bit Louis XIV - "L'état, c'est moi".

And that's before we get to the BeIN piracy, as pirating PL rights is an automatic fail of the O&D test.
Begs the question why is Ashley doing this?

Being completely impartial do you think it will go through?
No. I can't see any way round the O&D test. They can restructure to make sure PIF/Saudis aren't directors (Ashley's not a director of NUFC), but the problem will always be with the ultimate ownership of the shares, and it's hard to see how that can't be the Saudi royal family.

Compensation.

I see. That makes sense. Cheers

Cheers GOM, wanted to hear from someone that wasn’t blinkered by their hatred of the mags

I honestly think this whole case today is about Ashley pushing for compensation due to the ‘loss of earnings’ that he and his businesses have ensued by the deal not going through.

Ashley and his legal team can try and back the PL into a corner by stating that if the case goes to arbitration, they can prove the PL had dialogue with the big 6, but that still doesn’t mean the takeover can proceed on this basis.

The Saudis will still need to sit the O&D test, and due to the structure of the PIF, It will be impossible to pass.

I honestly think Ashley realises this and he’s just milking it for as long as possible, he keeps the club in the hope they remain a PL side whilst also taking pressure off himself from the fans by acting as a ‘willing seller’

Newcastles lawyers today actually confirmed they have had credible offers between the Saudis withdrawing and todays case. Ashley has had an option to sell but hasn’t, to another buyer.

I can see the PL being fined for dialogue with the Top 6 about a confidentially agreement between NUFC & the PL and a sum of money paid to Ashley for loss of earnings.

This however, still doesn’t put the takeover through and the Saudis will be advised they need to either call it off completely or ask to sit a test they know they wont pass.
