Whisky

Now there's a blast from the past !
My wife is from Whalley/Great Harwood and in our courting years spent quite a bit of time in Clitheroe. Remember going to a party and wanting something decent wine wise and going in there.Even then thought what a place.
Sure it must be the same place, that was probably mid 1990's mind.
Did you sample the delights of Rios during your time in Whalley? One of the more interesting clubs I've been to:lol: also Clitheroe used to be a cracking night out for the size of it.

Didn’t to be honest...the three pubs in the little triangle we used to go to, along with Indian restaurant. When there just over the stream was a pub with Thai restaurant above it.
Remember watching Benn v Mclellan there which shows you how long ago it was.

Remember the cracking butchers in Clitheroes mind

Wife confirm she went to Rios....said it was odd and drag nights etc were common.

She was probably one of the turns

After all my moaning, I managed to bag a Springbank 10, 15, 18 and 12CS. Also found an Ardnamurchan 07.21.05 for my troubles as well. Ouch.

P.S. of the SBs, only the 18 had any 'packaging' and it was a new style 'tube'

They had a bit of a mare with the packaging. Everything was supposed to be in tubes but they had logistics issues. They then tried to pass it off like they’d made a green packaging decision. They won’t have packaging in the future though.

Drag nights  that might explain the exceptionally large ladies in there, I thought they were just tough farm girls
Remember last time we were in Whalley it was for a Sunderland game against Burnley or Blackburn long after the wife moved up here.
We were in the pub opposite the Swan and posh Whalley locals didn’t know what to think of a dozen or so Sunderland fans...don’t think we were welcome back

One bottle each of the SB 12 & 18, LR 18 and KK 16. Didn’t try to get more than that.
I collared one of all of those too plus helped myself to a 10 and 15 whilst I was on

I couldn't understand that when I saw it on FB, going on about making some 'green' decision yet putting the 18's in tubes for the first time... They also tried to pass it off as industry leading when in fact loads of others did it before them.

The other thing I discovered is, whilst the washback bar is a great and welcomed addition, giving you the opportunity to sample drams you mightn't get otherwise, they don't do a driver's dram! So you either sit in there and drink it or miss out. Which is an horrendous marketing error IMHO when you take into account there's a 0 tolerance policy on alcohol in drivers in Scotland.

Btw they also tried to pass off the washback as industry leading when in fact it's not 😕

It seems that they maybe don't always think things through. Either that or their heads are shoved too far up their own arses, I've heard it said that can be an issue with Campbeltown folk in general although I have to honest I've never really experienced it myself and have spent plenty of time there. But maybe SB's popularity is going to their heads. Either that or it's all the whisky 😂 😉

Same with the North Star and whiskybroker release really...might be one off independent bottles but not “special editions” as such.
@Reubens tasche there are frequent releases every 6 months or so and while some bottles go quickly you can often manage to get something decent and at great value.
Worth it over a reputable 18 yr old talisker you think? Seen some are £60+ and for that I could easily get a safe lagavulin for that sort of money

The 2021 release of Talisker 18 is superb IMO. Just finished a bottle.
Not bothered chasing any of the Campbeltown releases, just ordered yet another Caol Ila bourbon cask  , this time an 10yo from SMWS together with an 11yo An Cnoc bourbon cask.

The recent Whiskybroker releases were all cask strength as usual. Their most expensive bottle was £87 for a 23 year old.
As much as I like the odd Lagavulin I’d rather spend £60 or even a lot less on some of the recent Indy bottles.
Just my opinion mind

I've not opened the Ardamurchan 07.21.05 yet but really getting through the 04.21:03 which I'm thoroughly enjoying for something so young.

Ta, I’ll probs get the talisker then

Drinking the 12 yr old caol ila atm, quite decent but not one ad probably buy again as a particular favourite, would prefer the benromach 10 yr old for the price

From memory Serge Valentin scored the Talisker 18 at 90/100 which is a decent mark from him. It’s a very nice dram.
I love Caol Ila whisky but invariably find the offerings from the Indy bottlers far superior to the OB’s.
