England vs India (fourth test) The Oval

We bat down to 10. Woakes is in at 9
135 behind, pope, bairstow, ali, woakes, Robinson still to come.
Just need 2 good sessions tomorrow like 80-2 in both and we can get a 100 run lead.
We need it though. Much less than that and it probably makes them favourites with us batting last.

Few swings of the bat turned the game, shame as we had done everything right up to then.

Think we are just edging it but, as ever, big day tomorrow.
We are. Just.

My hope would be that Malan and Pope look at this as a golden opportunity. 100 tomorrow and that's the series (well, not quite, but an unassailable position). Both have always looked the part, time to make it count when it matters.

It's a bit of an Australian pitch this mind, quite a few of the batsman - Kohli, Hameed - have been beaten by bounce and carry. Interesting dynamic.
Load of shite this. Openers have exposed the top order again. There was something to be said for Sibley just blocking for 100 balls.
There's nothing to be said about Sibley. He wasn't good enough. These two might not be either (though Burns is a better batsman than Sibley, all-day imo). But Sibley defintely wasn't.

Hiding at that level for a player of his ability imo. Five at first class - unacceptable.
He needs to speak to management there and ask to bat in the top 3 in the last few championship games. Same for Livingstone. Anyone who scores runs at the top of the order in the last few games has a chance of going to Australia

If Pope fails for the rest of this series, would love to see what Livingstone could do as number six.

How long are we meant to keep going with Burns?

I know the question is, who else, but he really isn't good enough at this level.

No thanks, he was out for nothing playing red ball cricket this week

Wish people would stop suggesting people after a few 6s in a T20 or 100 game

It has absolutely zero relevance to playing a test match

Libby scored an unbeaten hundred today, leading scorer in the championship now.

Don’t think Burns will go mind, honestly think they might see him as a candidate for captaincy after Root

We could be well behind by 11.30am, or out of sight by tea time. Test cricket.

Doesn't seem to be much in the pitch, we've given ourselves the best of the batting conditions, and we bat a long way. Hopefully the sun is out tomorrow and we can bat the day. I doubt it like, but you never know.

He just gets out every other innings for 0 or single figures

You dont need your openers scoring 100 after 100, you just need them not to get out immediately

He will never not to do that due to his technical flaws

They just need to get to 300 and we are laughing

The problem is without Root can we do it, not convinced.
You can. He’s only in the team because Buttler isn’t available, no runs in the next 2 tests and he will be dropped again

not for livinstone though, no merit on him being in the side like.

In the case of Pope he’s got two chances in this Test on his home ground to book his place on the plane for Australia.

What other options have we batting wise? Alex Davies perhaps or Jake Libby. Do we recall Adam Lyth or Vince? Perhaps Ballance can make a comeback. What about Alex Lees?

…..None of these fill me with great hope I’m afraid
