In business. If you buy a company and run it profitably, so that you don't need to put money in THATS A GOOD THING!

that's how it works.

If I bought a business and had to pump in my savings every few months.... I'd have failed.

Why do people think football is any different?
🤷‍♂️it's f***ing mental.

But, running a football club isn't just about profits.

What? I know Halls and Shepherd didn't put £146m into the club, the other lad is saying Ashley did.

No it doesn't, it just means he bought the debt.
The debt was only 54m at the Oct 2006 accounts -

I honestly have no idea how it got to 133m.

I don't want HIM to spend HIS money on our club. I want him to spend the club's money on the club. I want the training ground, the academy and the stadium to not be embarrassing for a top flight club. I want him to employ ambitious scouts and coaches and managers, to see the value in investing in the young players of the area, the value of keeping the training facilities contemporary.

Of course that's what you would do, you're a Sunderland fan that's more wrapped up in rivalry than reality. Your persona on here (and twitter) is one of pure contempt for Newcastle United and its fans. Which is all a bit ridiculous, for a grown up.

Well 'agrued'.

Wrapped up in rivalry says the mag on the Sunderland message board

I'm impressed by the certainty you have that the only possible future under Hall and Shepherd was financial ruin.

Hall and Shepherd were spending beyond our means chasing the moon, but that doesn't mean a) they would continue, b) Ashley was the only possible new owner around or, c) neglecting the club is better.

We can go in circles for decades if you want, but Ashley has clearly no ambition for Newcastle beyond surviving in the Premier League on as modest a budget as possible (see this transfer window for proof). He's turned us into the turd that won't flush (except for the 2 times it did). You might think that's aspirational for us, but when clubs like Leicester, Brighton, Leeds, Wolves, West Ham, have all shown more ambition than Newcastle, it proves that it's not reckless to want more than mere survival.

You, as a Sunderland fan, might think Newcastle United are destined to be bottom half due to petty rivalry. But the same logic that says no club deserves to stay up, says no club is bound to be bottom half, either.

The only reason you're on here is 'petty rivalry' yet you throw that out week after week.

You're a hypocrite and you're boring.

(I'm not saying that through rivalry, it's just true.)

What, because another owner was worse? So, you can't complain about Short, or the chuckle brothers, because of the Venkys, or George Reynolds, or the list of all the other bad owners.
On a sliding scale of how shit owners are for their clubs, short, and Donald, are closer to the venkys and Reynolds than Ashley will ever be. Other than the lack of silverware, ashleys performance as owner of his football club is as responsible as could possibly be

We nearly didn't have a football club. We've had 10 years of shite yous have no idea about. Double relegations, 4 years and counting in league one, players refusing to play whilst on £60k per week and players going to jail whilst on our books and owners literally taking the piss out of our fans to thier faces whilst buying the club with its own money, then lying about it endlessly, and falsely accusing our fans of trying kidnap his daughter. And tried to rip us all off with season ticket money and changed their mind a few days later when they realised we'd all cottoned on. An endless display of ripping the club off, destroying us on and off the pitch and making us an international embarrassment whilst they were at it.

You have premier League stability and a club as far from financial instability as possible. Yet it yous who are constantly, endlessly whinging on and on and on and it never occurs to you that maybe things aren't that bad, and simply getting behind the club, players and manager for a few months might actually achieve what yous so dearly want

It's not his club any more than Sunderland was shorts. The hundreds of millions that NUFC have rec'd from the Premier League, from other clubs=, from Sponsors isn't Mike Ashley's millions, it belongs to the club.

Owners are just custodians and you're wrong if you think otherwise.
Can MA spend it how he wishes? Yes because it's HIS Club. Ya Broth heed

But, running a football club isn't just about profits.

It's a multimillion pound business run by billionaires. So yes it is.

It's only "not about profits" to a minority of clubs, the so called "cartel" as they get called. Who can afford to have huge losses and debts.... and a tiny majority run for/by the fans.

That's what they're struggling with, accepting it's his club, his money, his decisions.

F*ck all to do with them.

Why would the big fella spend on the training facilities when he can buy a few more shops instead.

I think he's brilliant for the Reejun. The saviour of the High Street. He spends everything he makes at NUFC on purchasing and saving ailing businesses hence keeping people in jobs. Yet IIRC NUFC prop up his retail business.

Isn't investment in the Reejun what the Mags wanted the Saudi money for?

None of the other owners have won a thing in his lifetime, not the lifetime of most of them tbh.

It's just that they have the internet now.

I'm off to buy some Donnay socks.

I despair of some of them.

They think these billionaires should pump more money than they will ever have, year on year so that they (and the region - obviously) can feel good for their £40 ticket.

Football is business, and is about profit.

Mike Ashley is probably a bit of a twat. But he runs that club like a business, and if he can make money.... they have a club to follow.

They deserve a Venky or a Reynolds they really do
