Taking guard

Apologies for my lack of knowledge.
I watched Hameed taking guard and he seemed to take forever to mark his guard.
If there was a mark on the crease in line with the stumps would that not make all the boot scratching irrelevant?
He can basically do what he wants. It’s psychological more than anything.

When I'm playing I often take a while doing it, often making a little trench as such. Also after every 2, 4 or 6 I remark it again. All psychological I guess.

I get that, it just strikes me as a bit OCD. It worked yesterday though 👍
It definitely is a bit OCD. I tend to ‘re-mark’ my guard every ball 🤦‍♂️. I don’t ask the umpire every ball, but I’ll look down, scratch the line again and wander off to square leg for a moment.

Usually I chip a catch to cover within the first fifteen minutes anyway so doesn’t cause too much strife for the oppo
If there's one sport perfect for OCD then it's cricket
Absolutely. I’ve watched a fair bit of baseball this summer too, bizarrely enough and that’s possibly even worse :o

Many years ago I was playing cricket for the school against Thorney Close. Any way this lad comes out to bat at number 11. I'm lining up to bowl and the teacher umpiring asks him if he would like a guard as he was all over the crease. He then grabbed his bollocks and shouted " I've got one sir" :)

I find it bizarre that adults can't work out where the equivalent of piece of wood is on a parallel line that is just over a metre away. They have to rely on an owld bloke standing 20+ yards away.
