New gear

Looking to get back playing again, most likely next summer now.

All my gear was thrown out when I moved house (without my permission :roll:). Last time I bought anything was probably a decade ago and I used to just use Just Sport in Newcastle which I believe is closed.

Any recommendations on shops? Or is online the way to go?

And if anyone plays for a team North of the wear looking for people to make up the numbers in their 3rds/4ths give me a shout :lol:

Just Sport was still there in 2019. I went in to enquire about gear for the bairn. 😯
 
Just sport have moved to Newburn just over scotswood bridge and have changed names to optimum sports.

They do their own branded gear which seems to be good value. The website doesn’t have the other branded things on but I believe they have them in the actual shop.

There’s also Lorimers in Bishop if you don’t mind the drive down.
 
Also mate have a look at north east sports supplies. Online only at present but they have some decent gear in.

I play for littletown and we’re always on the lookout for players at any level.
 
How far north of the Wear?

You might be better waiting until you get a team - they may have a 'deal' with a kit supplier.

Our club use Serious Cricket - it's pretty good quality and a decent range of match kit and training / casual wear in our club colours and crest.

I'm South Shields based. Don't mind a bit of travelling but ideally in South tyneside, North Sunderland etc. Don't mind southside of the river but getting towards Durham way is probably a tad too far

Aberdeen a bit too far then! You wouldn't be the first Sandancer to play for us, though.

It's f*cking freezing today! Normal season starts end of April and runs through to the end of August, and we usually manage to fit in a couple of friendlies in September if the weather holds (it's normally not too bad at this time of year - July is usually the wettest month).

There's a 20:20 evening league as well - doesn't get dark until after 10.00pm in mid summer.

And there's some great places to play.

The amount of clubs up your way surprised me when I temp’d up there. I was in a Guest House next to Aberdeenshire CC.

Do you like a light/medium/heavy bat?
I've probably got some gathering dust in the loft (not played for 15-20 years) that you'd be welcome to. My main bat was a Newberry which I only bought a couple of seasons before injury forced me out but think there is also a G&M amongst all the other gear but the bats are fairly heavy.
I'll get up there next week and see whats there if it's any use.

Last time I was playing I was comfortable with bat's towards the lighter end of the scale. Did use a heavy Kookaburra at one point and it was nice when it came out the middle but 9 times out of 10 it did not :lol:

That's very generous of you, appreciate the offer. I think I'm going to head up to shop in Newburn as recommended earlier and pick out a new one. Will be part of the fun trying to find a one Im comfortable with. Thanks though

I knocked in one of their lads new bats earlier in the season and he was saying they were struggling for players. I’m sure they’ll be pleased to have you on board.
If you need any work done to your bats at any point give me a shout as that’s my business. Bat repairs and refurbs.
