Good article this - ECB shambles

Whilst I totally agree with the sentiments in the article and I worry that England will suffer in the long term from this, they had control of the game with India 194-7. The were 160 odd behind and bowling to the most fragile lower order. In failing to do this the balance of power shifted.

Would this article have been written if we’d won? I doubt it, but fundamentally everything it says is still true, but a win papers over the cracks. The ECB have chased money and ignored the opportunities that their players have given them. They slammed the door on the next generation in 2005 when they went to Sky. They had the World Cup win and The Stokes miracle at Headingley. They then invent some pathetic game for bairns and Dillard’s with no attention span and no knowledge of the 6 times table.

At 194-7 they then lost their heads and started bowling short and sledging. I find it amazing an experienced bowler in Anderson didn’t pull Root and suggest the tactics were shite.

They were into the tail why didnt they bowl it at the f***ing stumps?? India’s tail has been poor for a while so why not give themselves best chance to get them out. Shirt bowling can be ducked out of the way. Yorkers are more difficult. Shite tactics ended up taking the game away from England.

I’ve highlighted this bit

Dawid Malan, summoned to the rescue of the current England team, has played a single match and batted one red-ball innings for Yorkshire in 2021. What could possibly go wrong?

Totally true, and unfair on Malan even if he does well it’s so unfair putting a lad in who’s not played tests for three years and has had one red ball knock all summer.

It is ludicrous- would this happen in any other sport?? Please please please ECB this must change
It used to be that you were chosen for the tests on the strength of a successful summer at first class not any more! Ridiculous

And it's still one more innings than Buttler or Bairstow had played for their counties.

Absolute madness, but there you go.

He scored 199 in that innings though.

Clearly not done their research.
