The Curran’s

Sam Curran's test averages since 2018:

2018: Bat 36.73, Bowl 25.14
2019: Bat 20.60, Bowl 33.56
2020: Bat 19.67, Bowl 40.11
2021: Bat 18.00, Bowl 68.25

Has a player ever regressed so spectacularly?

says it all

I still maintain a few red ball seasons he’d be an all rounder

it’s a good example of how the modern order means young players won’t end up in test cricket

how much red ball cricket did stokes play for Durham? Loads.

would he if he came through now? Doubt if
This is very true, the ECB have pissed around with the system and although they will say red ball is a priority blah blah it clearly isn’t because the red ball summer has. Even lost in white ball cricket as never before.

The test batting at the mo is dreadful we’ve had to recall a 30+ year old lad who failed at test cricket last played tests three years
with an ashes series coming up in the winter.

What the absolute fuck. These administrators call themselves professionals but they must know absolutely nothing.

Such a shame, a few years ago everything was rosy in the garden we were winning ashes series again and the batting was solid but they haven’t built in this in the way Australia or India would have done.

it’s not the ECBs fault on Curran mate

he is in all the white ball squads and plays the ipl

he’d never play red ball for surrey no matter when it’s plsyed

He goes where the money is, they’ll have to do something to balance it out. That’s if they’re serious about it. Curran’s not the only one. I do agree they’re distinctly average players through. Sam better than Tom by virtue of his being a left armer.

The IPL was postponed this year and they could have went back and played red ball cricket. For whatever reason the ECB decided they needed a period of rest instead

not my point

a few red ball county games 1 random yeah

If he played a full red ball season for 4 or 5 years like stokes did he would be quality.

hr never would

Needs to bat top five for Surrey like you suggested previously. A test quality all rounder needs to be good enough to be selected on batting or bowling alone. He isn't good enough in either. His height will always count against him becoming a top class bowler.

totally agree

he can only play really at min if he takes new ball and swings it

I do think he is a good bowler potentially as he is clever and his aversge isn’t too bad

howevrt long term he needs to bat number 6 for England if he was ever to get into the side

he’s a new ball bowler not a 4th seamer if that makes sense

so giving him 4th go with the new ball is pointless. You almost need someone like a Carse type who bowls a “heavy ball” at that Plunkett type length, not someone who pitches it up
