Perhaps what I like most is the variation in our attacks. We can play it through the middle, go down the wings, long ball behind the defence, it makes it much harder to organise against us.

This. Regardless of tonight the performance is filling me with a lot of hope for this season. We actually look an attacking threat and create chances, something we haven't done regularly whilst being in this league. Fingers crossed it continues throughout the season.

Some team's going to get a hammering before long, considering the new boys are still getting used to it. Mind you, if the data boys have done their stuff, that should be sooner rather than later.

Played really well, created loads of chances. But haven't taken them. McGeady & Stewart one-on-ones were clearcut, and they both drew great saves from the keeper separately. Had other half-chances too. If we keep playing like that, you'd think we'll win. The worry would be that we haven't made our dominance count.

Still, encouraging stuff. Neil has been excellent, so has Stewart, Embleton has grown into it, O'Nien has been good. Doyle very impressive aswell.

Winchester has been solid but I think we need him to get further forward in support of Gooch so that we can create mismatches on that side. If it stays like this, Gooch to RB could be an option, with maybe Broadbent or Diamond on the wing. Wouldn't mind seeing Pritchard for 25/30 minutes either.

good point on Winchester

clear difference between him and the left back

the one signing we still need

Ironically, our best chances have come from long hoofs from the back. But I'd like to see us get on the ball and pass it more. Also, to state the obvious, we look vulnerable on the break, particularly on our left.

This game should be as good as over, but we're so wasteful in front of goal.
Gooch is his usual frustrating self, McGeady needs to up his game.
Some great runs & takes by Ross Stewart but shooting like Moira Stewart.

We need a goal from someone.

What a pleasure it is to see a Sunderland midfielder playing passes forward that are incisive and accurate . Build a side around Neil and the future looks bright .
First time I have seen Doyle ,what a player he is already ! Gooch has been poor and would like to see Broadhead replace him .
Even Flanagan has looked composed on the ball . Should be at least 2-0 up .
Keep it up lads !
Stewart is very mobile too ,could have scored a couple as well .

Should be out of sight. Playing some lovely stuff. Dan Neil showing up all of our centre midfielders of the last 3 years.

The difference between him and the likes of Power and Scowen is stark.

Lack of pace and creativity in CM has been an issue for a long, long time now.

It's a bit mental that it has taken so many years to finally address it.
