England v India (2nd test) Lords

The game was lost due to a spell of pathetic posturing from an undisciplined side. They spent 30 minutes trying to take Siraj's head off instead of getting them out, and it cost us the game. The capitulation with the bat was depressingly predictable.

I'd bring in Livingstone at 3 and Mahmood for Curran and Sibley. Given that there's no-one playing any domestic cricket at the minute, I'll take two high character players.
Mahmood isn’t a bad shout. I’m sorry but Curran is not test standard. He’s got a great attitude and pops up with the odd key wicket, but he’s ineffective too often.

Malan should return too but 3 is a place too high for him IMO.

100% and there’s not many alternatives

we need to stop pretending there is

you have to remember that before Burns was picked everyone was demanding he was

same with sibley

they’ve tried the top county scorers
Don’t know if it’s because I’m pissed but I keep thinking burns has a big score coming

We did have the upper hand but we had everything in our favour conditions wise and still lost the game despite having Bradman playing for us.

iy was cloudy most of the week

you are right in one sense but we just blew it

did a lot of good work, bowled really well yesterday for example

you can’t just dismiss it all as a team

I have no idea why people are so keen to dismiss the performance from India.

They were brilliant.
The better team won no doubt

but 60 overs to block and bat out

our openers failed miserably
Our top order failed
Our middle order had an effort
Tail well they were never going to stay

no test side should expect to be bowled out for that india were good but England were equally as poor

I’d have Malan and Vince in the top 3

our 2 most techinly correct batsman

knee jerk but I’ve said it

they don’t get 7 ducks in a year

aye I’m perplexed by that

last away series he was a hero in Australia too

not sure what it’s based on

they played on beaches in India
Loved his innings yesterday (apart from that it was against us) would kill for us to have someone like him when the team is in trouble

They average 24 and 27 in test cricket. I’m all for change but you can’t have both of those in the top 3. One would need to be a middle order bat

Couldn't the same be said for all batsmen having to bat on their home pitches?

its harder to bat in England than anywhere in the world

the average of all test openers around the world in last decade in England is 32

India prepared beaches this year but they are ususally flat as are Oz and Nz

root is a freak for me he’s the next best after Steve smith

Kohli averages 64 in India.
How? Have you seen how flat most Indian pitches are? And how much harder it is to bat in England with swing, seam and the dukes ball. If you spend most of your time batting in England, your average will be a lot lower than if you bat in India or Australia where is it a lot flatter

they’ve improved since then

it’s not ideal I realise but they play straight

imagjne what Ali Cook would have averaged if he was Indian or Australian

over 50 without doubt

They were lucky we folded like a pack of cards. I don’t think a strategy that only gives you 60 overs to bowl a side out on a flat pitch would succeed often. Even the Indian commentators were criticising the timing of the declaration saying there wasn’t enough time. They won because we were utterly woeful, no other reason. And not sure you can rely on batsman averaging single figures to pull out 89 partnerships often
Fwiw I agree re the declaration I was referring more to their approach yesterday which you criticised which was the foundation that initially saved the game for them and then gave them a chance to win it.

its the only way they could have won the game

they nearly lost if there
