Malan has looked a walking wicket in internationals of late (and the Hundred for that matter), played no first class games and he's still the only credible candidate really. The issue we have is that we actually have some options at 5. Be it Bairstow, Stokes or Pope. What we don’t have is a top 3, or clarity what we want at 6 and 7.

Checked the laws and you don't need to give any notice, but if less than 10 minutes remain of the break, you add time to make it up to 10 minutes, so effectively the same as giving 10 minutes notice.
