Test squad for India series

Joe Clarke, Hassan Azad, Will Rhodes, Sam Hain, Harvey Hosein, James Bracey (batting not keeping!), Jack Haynes etc.

JB is a dead end selection. His red ball game has suffered as he improved in white ball and you are just filling up a space that could be used to blood new talent with someone who averages 15-20. It makes sense if he's in there as wicket keeping cover for Buttler but not as a batsman.

Fair play, none of them should play against India like for me.

I go back to my previous point, with out Stokes we need some senior players

we cant throw another kid or inexperienced player in there, they have no chance.

Look at how poor Bracey was, the others are nowhere near selection or on the radar IMO.

The only other option for me would have been Malan, cant think of anyone else who has been around the squads. Actually maybe Vince at 5.

remember Stokes will be back probs after this series and Pope will be long term

no need for another kid.

Might as well pick Denly by the same logic. At least he will chew up 100 balls for his low score.

Dunno why we need more experienced players when we have six over 30 and a scratch side beat Pakistan in ODIs.

Apparently Bairstow is playing today. Be interesting to see where he bats.

that’s white ball mate it’s completely different

none of those names you mention are test cricketers

I can’t believe they left leach out

silver wood does not rate him

he’s a good player and test quality

baffling

2 years since he played at home now when he bowled out the Aussies

dear me

anyway haway

Glad to see Bairstow in the Test team. He hasn’t been given enough opportunities in the Test side…. There’s absolutely no chance that if he’s Jonny Bairstow from Durham CCC he gets this many goes.

Also looking forward to seeing Sibley prod and poke at half volleys and long hops for 250 balls.

I think this is the least encouraging England side for a long, long time.

such nonsense

he’s been messed about more than any test cricketer in my life time

to suggest it’s the opposite is complete nonsense

in fact if he played for surrey he’d never have been messed about

As ex-Essex I suspect Silverwood rates Dan Lawrence's bowling and we can get by with two part timers. Poor decision IMO.

im not getting into that again. It’s fairly obvious.

Well wind your neck in then unless you’re willing to briefly and succinctly explain ;-)

He’s now got 75 caps despite only having one genuinely decent year for England. Yes, he has moved up and down the order (as has Root who has opened, batted 3, 4 and 5) but he has been given numerous chances by the national side. I remember a player, who played for Surrey incidentally, in my lifetime who was messed about more than Bairstow and he certainly didn’t get 75 caps despite having more natural talent with the bat.

I was expecting you to!

BTW I am surprised he was picked. He wouldnt have been if Stokes was there. I just think thats the key point people need to remember.
Well the only bit your wrong about is the lucky bit.

He's lucky that Stokes Pope are injured to be in the side again.

Personally I'd have thought Malan might have been in with one eye on Aus. Maybe Hameed replacing Sibley. As I think Malan and Crawley will both be good in Aus.

Your right about messing Bairstow around.

We had a good plan with root 4 stokes 6 Bairstow 7 Ali 8 Woakes 9.

He should have remained keeper and batting 7. But we lost that plan trying to plug holes elsewhere and its cost us.

Then throw in Ed Smith and the Buttler love in and it's been messy since we moved away from that.

I agree we need a senior player in here after how they looked against New Zealand. Malan doesn't rectify that despite his age.

Bairstow batting at 5 here is probably a mistake too. 6-7 is as high as he should bat.
