"Sports" that shouldn't be olympic sports.

Skateboarding??? Is this a sport? Impressive yes, but not a sport.

can’t believe squash isn’t in the olympics but skateboarding and horse dancing are.

Is it really any different to some of the skiing events or even things like the luge.

All use a piece of equipment for skating/sliding

That horse is probably worth 10 million

Not saying for a moment that it shouldn't be in there of course, but swimming has far too many medals available when you see how often it's the same swimmers grabbing them. Athletics develops clear specialisms with sometimes someone excelling in 100/200 or 5K/10K, but that's it. Swimming has every possible variation of distance, stroke, mix of strokes etc, and it is quite common for people to be competing in them across the board almost - overkill IMO; maybe OK the rest of the time to pad events out, but at Olympic level it should be a bit less. Otherwise why shouldn't for example judo have 1 minute, 3minute, 5 minute, 10 minute bouts and similar for other sports.

Turning to athletics, high jump should be relative to height, simple as. Oh and equestrian events, again, not knocking them, but Olympic medals, not IMO, especially as why is horse racing not in then?

A lot of people are just posting sports they don't like. I'm with the group who say that an Olympic gold should be the pinnacle for the athlete. I don't really see why tennis or golf should be Olympic sports.

Simple answer is that they are popular with sponsors and broadcasters.

With golf, they had a great opportunity to make it stand out differently in the Olympics, rather than yet another bog standard 72 hole individual stroke play event. They could have either made it a pairs event or better still, a mixed pairs event and made it stand out from the rest of the events on the golfing calendar.

As it is, it's rather unremarkable by anyone's standards, especially coming so soon after the biggest golf event of the year, The Open.

No problem with water polo and handball as these are big sports internationally, just not in the UK.

Baseball and softball are debatable. If basketball is there why isn't netball and if they have tennis and badminton why not squash?
In fairness, why does netball still exist?
Always seemed like just basketball for girls, which just isn't needed in this day and age

Sick of all these sports that are variations of football, obviously invented by fatties and motor morons who were crap at footy -

hockey - football with a stick
Ice hockey - football with a stick on ice
Water polo - football in a pool
Polo - footballhorseback
Handball - football in a gym for people who can’t kick
There’s even a game called octopush played with snorkels I think that’s like hockey played on the bottom of the pool.

Most of the ‘sports’ that are won by being judged are shite too. Synchronized swimming, synchronized diving, diving etc.

Also the gymnastics and swimming go on far too long. I’ve been watching blokes do that pommel horse thing since I was a bairn and haven’t seen a single inventive technique on display in decades. Same old shite every time.
That covers all the experts on FACEBOOK

I’m in my 70s and have never been on a skateboard and accidentally started watching the skateboarding the other night. I was fascinated by all the terminology and at first a bit unimpressed because they made it look so easy but the more I watched the clearer it became that it took a lot of hard work and skill to get that good and make it look effortless. No way am I ever getting on a skateboard but I will watch the other competitions if I see them. If gymnastics is a sport then I don’t see why skateboarding shouldn’t be.
