Lack of transfers concerning?

Too early? The season starts in 2 weeks mate. No one wants to be scratting around at the end when clubs and players know you're desperate.
The problem is its a fine line, better players will have more offers so we are trying to make sure we get good players in.

Are we not better off getting 2 or 3 out of 6 quality targets in ten filling the squad with youngsters as opposed to signing anyone who will come regardless if they improve the squad or not?

Getting info out of the club is now nigh on impossible, we had a player do a medical, it's normally conducted at the AOL doctors office, he ended up at the spire in Washington.
Then gone whooosh without a trace.
WTF is going on at the club, we have lost out on 6 players in the last 3 weeks, something is amiss here.
The FA said, the player had left the North East and travelled back to Stockport.
That's it NO NAME nowt.
Something is just not right here.
..we have been saying for a while Bob mate.

Have we missed out on/lost 6 players or have we decided we can do better/to focus on other deals instead?
I'm quite happy with the silence as long as the team on the pitch looks good come the end of the window. All this whining on before then is utterly pointless.

If you don't mind me asking which 6 players have we missed out on? and if the player who had a medical failed it its surely a good thing we haven't signed them.
As for not getting info out of the club I'd much rather we weren't letting the world know who we are talking to and reducing the chance on someone swooping in with a better offer last minute
i dont know if he failed, or if he got a better offer, just as he was about to commit to us.

I haven't been blown away over any of our signings so far tbh. The City lad on loan looks a canny loan buy based on his first two friendly appearances though.

If he failed the medical we don't need another sicknote, if he is chasing the buck we don't need anymore mercenaries either way losing out on him isn't a huge problem as far as I can see.
And what about missing out on six players? do we know who they are?

Nope! We have a very wealthy owner. I strongly suspect the problem is that we have been seen as a clubb who will pay over the odds to sign players, just to live and play in Sunderland. Look at LC and that ridiculous f***ing 5 year deal...There have been others, many others.

If Speakman etc are not going down that road. I support it. Remember when RK said a player wouldn't sign because his wife doesn't like the shops? That's what they're dealing with, all the time. We're a huge club in this league and the next one up, if that doesn't attract players. Something wrong with the system or the individuals in Football in general.

I'm much happier with the club doing stuff that we don't find out about until it happens rather than being leaked to all and sundry

a lot of teams have blown their load too early and won't have room for manoeuvre when the better players become available.

don't get me wrong I wish our business was done earlier. And our current squad is trending towards mid table at best, but as I saw somebody else point out, the transfer deadline is currently further away in time than the start of the Euros the other way. There's still ages left. Sure it means we may not be too strong for first few games which is a problem. But its not as big a problem as signing shit players in a panic will be. As we will just be back in same boat next year trying to shift deadwood.

Teams in this league do their business early every single season because all they can afford is out of contract players. Saying they'll miss out on players they couldn't afford anyway is nonsense.
At least we could sign Ben Alnwick and Donald Love still

TBF I don't think any player at this level will blow me away. I'm going to wait til 10 games after the transfer window see how the team looks then.

Lets be honest who was blown away wen we bought some lad form Watford? am sure he was called Phillips and did OK for us 😉

Problem is we only have 2 weeks to get it right, or LJ can use the excuse we are still gelling together it takes time.
The players who have moved who we were after COULD have given the place a lift, i think Piggott would have been a decent signing for this shit league in place of that accident AOB. WTF is he about.

if we were in the prem i would agree, the shops in the bridges are shite, but we are a div 1 club mate with 26000 season cards sold

This line that it's taking us ages to sign players because we are going after ones we really really want (and therefore others do), is utter horseshit imho.

There's no hidden unearthed gems out there that we know about and no one else does. I'll bet most clubs in Champo and even league 1 are using the up to date, data driven analytical approach. We haven't reinvented the wheel fhs. It's there for every club who can afford it, to use.

We just aren't making coming here attractive enough whether due to contract length, wages, can't agree fee, maybe our geographical position ffs, whatever it is, players aren't coming like we thought they would.

Very concerning with 16 days to go and a squad that overall, is mediocre at best.

If we have loan deals for Morgan Rogers, Ethan Galbraith etc lined up, but they can't come until the likes of Sterling and Pogba get back from the Euros, then great.

Let's be honest, most fans will have looked at his scoring record at Watford and probably thought we might have a decent striker here. Maybe not the success he turned out to be but definitely someone who could do a good job for us
What happened to the two lists of players, one for the championship and one for league one 🤷‍♀️

We got them mixed up and are trying to sign players who don't want to come here as they see themselves as Championship players

Would you suggest we go after players who other team's don't want (Danny Graham) or throw money at players to get them here (Rodwell, Grigg)?

If we have to be patient hen so be it I would rather we didn't land players who are better than what we have than get players in who don't add anything but numbers to the squad.

For starters our fans help spread that myth. Sunderland is a cracking place to live and it's not as if players are restricted to living in Sunderland. The North East is a lovely area and in terms of property prices you can get far more bang for your buck than anywhere else.
