Honestly the number of mags either through work or friends of friends who I’ve spoken to over the years who reckon they were at the Gillingham game..it’s only when I’ve started to quiz them about it that I’ve realised what a load of bullshitters they are..there was 200 of them..maximum..in the Clockstand towards the Roker end surrounded by police..i was in the Fulwell end and had a decent view of them.
some claim they were there, and weren't even born.....

There's not really much to say. It was always a smokescreen to avoid buying players and spend money on the squad. Sadly, a section of the fanbase - the ones on Twitter it would seem, have lapped it up.

Im much more concerned about the lack of quality in our squad for the coming season, and whilst I am in no way a fan of Bruce, he has been dealt a shitty hand for the coming season.
Saw this on a forum.

"Meanwhile, the Saudis have invested £550m in the UK McLaren F1 team.
Not even a whisper about that. The other F1 teams did not gang up to block the deal, the F1 governing body made no representations and the virtue signallers have all gone to sleep."

Is this true ? Is it a similar investment do they have a point ?

Bruce's "shitty hand" is most likely because he's been poking around down there as the picture above proves 😧

McLaren has raised £550m in a deal that makes Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund a minority shareholder in the supercar and racing group.

This is from Jul 16

Edit : just realised FT link is for paid subscription

Without knowing the full story I think it’s that word ‘minority’ that’s key.

The takeover of Newcastle fell down because they would have majority control of the club and refused to submit certain individuals for the checks that would entail.

Regarding the investment in F1 I'm honestly not sure, hadn't heard about it. Its just part of the PIF strategy I guess, but I'm assuming ownership or investment rules are different in different sports.

My interest in it all was so minimal, and now even more so, I have always seen it for what I think it was ever since it all fell through, a distraction technique and smokescreen for a lack of investment where it matters.

As I say, my concern is for the season ahead.
