Ashwin to Surrey

brandon

Striker
Sorry @TheRey, but I’m very disappointed* in your boys doing this.

*and I’d honestly say the same if we’d signed him.

Meh. I don't agree with it as such, but I'm not gonna complain. Every other county does it anyway

We didn’t, not like this and he wasn’t in the squad at the time.

This is for one game, to get him warmed up for the Test series against us.

He joined us in 2019 with the express intention of playing himself into Ashes contention.

Do you honestly think, if a more established player, like Warner or Smith, wanted to play for Durham we'd have turned them away?

Aha, which was more or less what I said.

Playing oneself into contention, is a million miles away from playing oneself into some rhythm a week before the First Test when you’re already selected.

It's still giving an opposition player valuable practice on English wickets. Ashwin only gets one game whereas Bancroft had loads.

One bloke wasn’t in a squad, the other is. I’m convinced you’re just doing it to spite me now though so that’s the last I’ll say on the matter.

We signed Will Young to get him prepared for the test series against new Zealand.

I don't recall objections then, even if he played more than one game.

It's more shameful by Surrey when they have a young English spinner who might not play as a result of this.

Not really, I’m not the one who can’t tell the difference between one and two ;)

There's no real differnce in cricketing terms.

A batsmen or bowler could have the same opportunities to perform depending on how a game (or games) pan out and the great British weather.

Bringing in Ashwin late in the summer, in the currrent climate, is very disappointing

Wow and that's the difference you make between it being right and wrong. They have both come for a bit of practice and both counties snapped them up.
No, didn’t make any distinction between right and wrong. Merely responding to the poster who claimed it was ‘EXACTLY the same’.

It wasn’t.

Why would I post this to spite you? I have nothing against you, in fact I think you're spot on.

You're still wrong on this point though. All counties do this and we've done it.

Will Young is another one.

Edit: and Stephen Cook.

Seems wrong to me like, fair enough if a player plays several games for a county before playing for his country over here, as that could benefit the county as well with more wins points etc.

For a player to play just a single game! Just to get some practice in, just doesn’t fit right with me.

He is a established top international cricketer who is simply using Surrey, wonder if he tells them how many overs to bowl him just to get him just right!!
