Vaccine shortage threatens further Freedom Day delay

I can't speak for everyone, but when I went last week, I wasn't given an option. It was just 'you're having Moderna'. They should really start offering Astrazeneca as first option - I don't think too many people would care.

The booking system isn't great either. If you've already had your first jab, you can move your second dose forward a few weeks. But, you've got to cancel your previous appointment first. Daft system and understandable that people wouldn't want to 'risk' losing their slot.

I’ve had the first one and was told my GP would contact for the 2nd?

In theory could I book the 2nd a couple weeks earlier?

Surely the decreased numbers is just because they're running out of people to vaccinate and with the slower 1st vaccinations roughly 12 weeks ago there's not as many 2nd vaccinations going in either. Locally (North Tyneside) have been doing walk ins for both AZ and Pfizer for the last 2 weeks now and they're still dead.

Increased risk of blood clots which are a higher risk than the complications of Covid basically. Both very very unlikely but better to be on the safe side imo.
How does the walk in system work?

Yeah - I was waiting for my gp but went on and got one booked 4 weeks earlier.
Then gp contacted me so just gave them details of my booking and they took me off their list

That's one of them, there's a few others now aswell, Willington Quay being one definitely. Credit where it's due to North Tyneside for having 16 community sites doing vaccines on top of the GP ones. Pretty much everyone North of the Tyne is using them now since Newcastle and SE Northumberland pretty much have none bar the Centre of Life - think there might be one in Ashington.

Cheers - my 19 year old is in Wallsend - where is the best place for her and when can she go?

- That's all the vaccine places, she won't be able to go yet as they're still doing the age caps. Tbh though if she gets on the booking system there's been tonnes of appointments about.

Pharmacy4u - The Village Hotel
Pharmacy4u - Tynemouth Morrisons (Old Blockbuster Unit)
Cedarwood Trust - North Shields
St Pauls House - Willington Quay
Monkseaton Methodist Church

Those 5 have been doing walk-ins on and off the past few weeks though if she doesn't get one though, not sure what's the closest/easiest though.

Passed the queue for that one on the way to an inspection today. Looked popular. Dunno why they’re fuckîng bothering like, they’ll never be allowed to get back to normal again.

Thanks for that!

I nearly cancelled last night to see if I could get a quicker slot but didn’t want to risk having to wait an extra few weeks.

a separate option to view second booking space would be much more helpful so you can change your booking rather than cancel and rebook.

You’re a cheerful chap aren’t you, maybes if everyone got vaccinated it might help get back to normal.

Cancelled mine this morn for aug the 7th rebooked July 13th at the nightingale.

Didn't know that. Mind, I still can't see why they can't just add a button that says "move your booking" alongside "cancel your booking". Surely can't be too difficult to do.

Didn't realise we must have different booking software in Scotland, here you just select a new slot and a 'confirm new booking' type thing comes up. No cancelling or giving up involved.

That's a much better system. Not sure why they'd use different ones.

They've just updated the system for England. If you click to change your booking, it'll now show you when are the earliest days you can rebook before you cancel your old one. That works way better than before.

In theory yes, but I'm not entirely sure. You should be able to log in to the website and check when the earliest slots are available. Might be worth having a look
